  • Late night drink at home with Manchego cheese. Drank in both Grassl Cru and Conterno Sensory. Half bottle brought back from winery.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral blossoms, mineral inflections - iron and saline, earth, red fruits. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acid, medium+ alcohol (13.8%), smooth gossamer medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of pretty red cherries, cranberry, raspberry, red pomegranate, saline minerality, light earth going on forest floor, light spice. Medium+ finish
Very good quality. Pretty and nice complex Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Clearly speaking of cool terroir. In a good place already. Probably can develop more if in regular bottle.

  • Prior bottle was 7 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Slightly prettier nose than previously with red berries, red cherry and forest floor notes. Medium bodied with rounded and expressive red cherry upfront. Mid-body adds some darker red cherry, some high toned red berries and some background red raspberry notes. Backside shows tart red cherry and cranberry along with tannins, balanced acidity and the light spice notes. Felt like all the elements were in a slightly better balance than in my prior bottle, even if the flavor profile only shifted slightly. I would drink these over the next 2 years because while it will last after that time, based on these notes, I think that's where it will show it's best.

  • Ranges from red to blue fruits. Good fruit, ample acidity and a firm structure. Earthy secondary notes. Finishes with lingering tart fruit.

  • Prior bottle was just over a year ago and my notes were very comparable. Red cherry, red berries, tart cranberry and forest floor notes on the nose. Medium bodied with red cherry upfront, broadening through the middle and adding red raspberry and red berries. The balance here is a real strength as the fruit is expressive but there are enough contrasting notes of acidity and tart red fruit so the wine comes off as elegant and complex. Cranberry and tart red cherry on the back along with minerals and light spice notes. This wine is in a really good spot at present. While I think it has some time in front of it, I plan to open my last bottle in Fall 2021 alongside the 2014 to enjoy the peak.

  • Tasting note largely the same as before, red fruited, hint of vanilla, low acid, low tannins, seems to still be drinking very nice.

  • Love Peay! I think that sums it up...actually thought about a higher score. As far as a drinking window...easily another 3 - 5 years. The best example of a Sonoma pinot...stop searching.

  • Prior bottle was almost 10 months ago and this wine has improved nearly exactly as I'd hoped. Red cherry, cranberry and forest floor on the nose. Medium bodied with red cherry upfront which shows a good blend of brightness and roundness. Mid-body was more open than my prior bottle, bringing in red raspberry and red berry that was noticeable more defined than in my prior bottle. Cranberry and tart red cherry provide contrast. Acidity and tannins are much more in balance than in my prior bottle, contributing structure and contrast, but in keeping with the fruit. As well as this wine showed tonight (especially with 4 hours open), I think it has even more future potential. The 2014 Ama is current the best of '13-15, but I think in another year, the '15 will reach that level and it may well deserve a further score bump. Really wish I'd waited and not open that first bottle as soon as I did. Peay pinots are well worth waiting for! Next bottle for me will be Q2 2021, perhaps even June.

  • Wow. Ready now. Still full of fresh ripe fruit, but in balance without residual tightness. Will mature and develop further... looking forward to the next bottle in 1-2 years.

  • Really enjoyed this. With 4th of July rib dinner. This is a slightly lighter style but isn't too high on the acid. Really lets the fruit be the star here. One of those easy drinking bottles that's gone before you know it. Not overly complex but well worth the $40 I paid and a fun wine.

  • Red cherry and vanilla notes on the nose. Medium bodied (13.8% ABV) with rounded and open red cherry upfront that develops brightness and adds acidity towards the middle (inverse of the typical progression). Mid-body seems slightly closed at present as there are hints of raspberry, red berry and cranberry, but without the usual silkiness or density. Feels like all the elements are there, just tightly packed for now and not yet showing the full range. Backside shows a good amount of tartness along with some structural tannins. With some additional time, the tannins and acidity should be better balanced with the fruit and the mid-body should be a bit more open. It's certainly drinkable now, but I think will be significantly better in a year that's it's really worth holding this for now. Next bottle for me, late Q2 2020.

  • Red cherry on the nose, bit of cola, on the palate isn’t as dense as the nose would suggest, get a mixture of raspberry and cherry, touch of vanilla, has a nice tartness reminiscent of a bourgogne, very nice and not over the top, low acid and low tannins with a medium length finish.

  • For a California Sonoma Pinot, this definitely makes it. I so enjoy the New World "lightness" of these pinots. Peay gives us a world of pinots that cross between the heavy whites to the light reds. Had this wine with a blackened shrimp salad....perfect match.

  • Ok to drink now but obviously could use a few years. Needs a little air right now to open up, and oddly a bit thin on the palate. Beautiful ruby color and vibrant nose.
