Finally, a good bottle after several that were lacking. Herbal and complex nose and ample fruit on the palate where previous bottles were thin and lacking. Perhaps I opened this in a dumb phase before, although I have generally found the rosso to be approachable throughout its life.

translucent ruby color with the earliest bit of bricking at the rims. the usual tuscan brush showed on a savory nose along with dust, balsamic, roasted cherries, and fennel. light to medium bodied with a sort of sour acidity. lithe, elegant mouthfeel. fruit a bit thin on the palate at first, though this gained a body with air and a couple of hours. sour cherry fruit and earth on the palate. medium length finish with scattered dusty tannins clinging for life. just a bit of astringency there. started feeling thin and lacking but gradually rounded into a tasty, pretty wine. not one to pair with steak or hearty sauces, honestly did better as a wine of contemplation later in the evening. i've had plenty of wines from the maker. almost all have been spectacular, and while good, this one falls a bit short of that.

Dinner with the wine group (Sole Ristorante, San Mateo): Medium aromatics, red bell pepper, red fruit, savory; palate is medium bodied, balanced alcohol, medium tannins, youthful but with some savory complexity, red fruit, some forest leaves; finish is medium length. Very nice, drinking well now. 90-91

Loved it! Gave it a double decant plus an extra couple hours B4 dinner which melded the tannins, added weight, elegance and aromatics. Beautiful from our Reidel Burgs. Drank in high 50s/low 60s. Has the fruit purity, complexity and elegance I hoped for from PdS. Only a modest step down from the BdM. 13% alc.

This was a little underwhelming as I have come to expect from the vintage, but after some air it did improve somewhat. Just seems a bit thin and lacking in the usual magic.

Not sure if this is flawed or not; wine shows an unclean dirty cherry note I do not like very much. The acidity is too noticeable for me, and the tannins are a bit too coarse and too long in the finish for my taste. Not really my taste.

First time opening this vintage, and first time I wasn't wowed by this wine. All the elegance and balance is there, but the midpalate was a bit diluted.

Aromas of dirty cherry, earth, leather and pipe tobacco - really beautiful feel on the palate - loose grained tannins with lingering finish. Decent stuff, although probably a bit punchy on the pricing.

Tasted blind and was pleasantly surprised by this 2014 Poggio du Sotto Rosso du Montalcino. Clean and light nose of strawberries, cherry liquor and musty macerated cherry, with a touch of vanilla pod. Medium bodied, lightish tannins. Gentle and charming. The sour cherry note reminded me of La Rioja Alta, but clearly I was wrong and in a completely different country and grape variety.. yum! (87/100)

Ruby red. Sweet strawberry fruit and a touch of vanilla. High acid, crunchy style – the mark of the vintage? Some herbs coming through, lots of cranberry. Tannins very fine and coherent. Balsamic on the finish. Charming but a bit too lean – a bit weak on the mid-palate.

This seems to be a bit shut down at the moment - certainly doesn’t have the complexity and liveliness that the Poggio di Sotto rosso often shows. It could also just be the fairly weak vintage. Will wait a while on my remaining bottles.

Wine swap. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aroms of violets, soft red cherries, red cherry plums, saline stones minerality, creeping soy earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, juicy high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), fine medium tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of soft gentle red cherries, sweet red cherry plums, floral spice, crunchy stones and light saline minerality, emerging savoury soy earth. Faint leather and licorice on day 2 with more air. Long finish. Very good quality. Not a high impact wine. Takes some time to unfurl. And is just so damm elegant. Will drink well as it develops over the next 3+ years. Only 1 barrel of the Brunello was made in 2014. Everything else for this vintage was Rosso.

Great Rosso. More in line with a very good Brunello in the prime of its drinking window. Borderline 93. Unfortunately the prices reflect this. Nonetheless a really enjoyable bottle.

PnP. Bright brick red core, clear. Penetrating aromas of fresh red and purple flowers, some soil, pipe tobacco, leather, and fresh cherry notes. Medium-bodied with an elegance and sophistication not usually found in RdMs. An absolute joy to see how this has aged, and, for my palate, it's the right time to be opening them (even if it will hold for a while). 13,0% abv. recommended
Superlative Rosso. The fruit shines through: Dark cherry and blackberry - structured but without sharp tannic ends, medium bodied. Really elegant balance in the wine.

Excellent as always- this has a little reductive sulfur and a slight bit of greenness but relative to the fruit that’s pretty low in the mix and adds complexity. Don’t know how this will age relative to other vintages but it’s great right now.

Great Rosso, drinking beautifully right now. Dark cherry and cassis, as well as fresh herbs and maybe even a hint of tobacco. Very drinkable, with more structure than many Rossos. Very nice finish.

Terrific Rosso. Lovely light bodied notes of cherry and raspberries. Even a tough vintage and declassified bottling comes out well from Poggio. Impressive.

Clean and aroma of black cherries, over ripe tomato, leather, eucalyptus and a tiny hint of vanilla oak. Nice concentration and depth with balanced and rounded palate. A touch more savoury grilled meat and fresh thymes towards the end of the medium bodied mid-palate. Transitions to the siky finish is seamless, perhaps just a touch alcoholic after it warms up. Very good Rosso di Montalcino nonetheless.

91 poeng.

Slow-oxed for 1 full day prior to serving into Schott Zwiesel Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Pale ruby to the eyes.
Great red cherry fruits and florals.
Ultra plush and suave tannins. Great integration.
Superb quality rosso and enjoyable. 93-94 points.
