I'm always amazed by Mollydooker's 'Boxer' as it's a high-striking specimen. Every vintage. Just centimeteres below the really expensive, famous cuvées.
This offers a youthful, deep red with a violet tinge. The nose is huge, sporting anise seeds, fennel, licorise, Bassett's AllSorts, rich iron minerality and Syrah berries on the level of sleeping with them. In the mouth: superb balance, richness, length, complexity and phantasmagoria unleashed. Wow! At this price point, nothing in this genre can beat it.

This is a great wine - was a bit in doubt about the shaker - but did it anyway :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF5xT0mhWog Almost black in glass. It is very pleasant bouquet and long after taste. Pleasant tannins. Cannot taste it is 16%. Still expensive wine for 169 Dkr, but buy again. This is a wine that everyone will appreciate.

For the money, this may be year after year the best Aussie Shiraz for the money (aprox $20)-100% varietally correct. The 16% alcohol makes it a little more of a fruit bomb-alcohol bomb than I care for-that kept me from rating this 90 or more (I think the wine came with boxing gloves) but it is a great Shiraz. Drinking great now, give it a bit of air versus pop'n'pour for best results.

PNP. Blackberry, chocolate cocoa vanilla. Silky tannins. Full bodied. It hides the 16% ABV well, but the fruit veers towards stewed. Fans of the style would likely rate higher.

Zero hint of this wine's 16.0% alcohol on the nose (stinging penetration) or palate/finish (hotness). Ample dark fruit and spice, slightly mature plum. Going with buffalo burgers and tater tots!

Tastes like what it is: a branded, highly extracted, high alcohol, fruit bomb. They definitely have their place and I keep a few around for when I want to get drunk sharing one bottle. Then again, that really never happens.

Loads of dark fruit with some spice. Dense and jammy. Mild tannin. Big and bold, and a bit one dimensional. My first exposure to Mollydooker wine, although it is a favorite of several of my wine drinking friends. No "Mollydooker Shake," which I learned about after opening - although the thought of shaking a wine before pouring (oh no, not my Bordeaux!) is to me a message from the winemaker that this is not a wine meant for setting down and aging. In fairness, the vintner's on-line instructions, no "Shake" is necessary for their wines that are more than 2 years old. A fun, PNP wine, however, at this price point, not sure about the overall value.

Consistently very good Shiraz. Big fruit driven wine on a muscular frame. The 16% alcohol is not overly apparent but is well integrated into the long finish. Great QPR at $20.

Nose: A floating cloud of toasted spices: cumin, ground anise, bit of lapsang souchong.
Mouth: Macerated black cherry, blueberry preserve, spiced plum, hint of maraschino glide effortlessly into a midpalate of melted licorice, huge milk chocolate and powdered exotic spices. Tame, packed-in tannins take away the finish.
Overall: Showing sometimes more Cabernet than Syrah, this is a seamless wash of melted, richly packed flavors. A kitchen sink of things that are all over the map. Could use a healthy dose of definition, but the flavors have personality and are well integrated.
90.

This is one of the first wines I ever had so itll always be special even if my tastes and preferences have moved in different directions. Opened yesterday and put a cork in it till tonight, my birthday. Still has that blueberry jam which smashes you in the face, followed by some tartness with red fruit and some herbaceous notes. Not overly complex or special, but great QPR when found for ~$20. I once thought this might age well, but now I think its prime is 3-5 years after release. Good stuff, have had every release since 2005 and will always pick up a few when I see them.

Lots of glycerine tears from 16% ABV . I drank this over three nights alongside a Martinelli Giuseppe and Luisa Zinfandel. The boxer was a bargain at $18.95. The Zinfandel was $49.95 and 16.4% ABV.
This had obvious red fruit on the nose, I served at around 58 degrees- because it seems to taste better when chilled. It’s soft, thick a bit like red cordial but has none of the nasty confected taste that many lower end fruity reds have. Delicious long finish. This is consistently great. Still, On the first two nights this seemed unbalanced alongside to the $50 Martinelli wine. Then in the third night it came into its own. The vanilla oak was more obvious, the wine tasted more integrated, more “together” and just better than the two prior night’s. It’s funny how that happens. I’ve had a few 2001 Henry’s Drive Shiraz that were delicious on opening then fell apart after five hours. Wine is truly a mysterious thing.
The boxer is a bargain, especially if you buy it online.

Big fruit flavors on a nicely balanced frame. The Mollydooker shake is a must with this wine to allow it to show all of the potential and show the black and red fruit. This bottle showing improvement over the last bottle. A real bargain if you can find this for $20 and a good QPR at the average price of $25.

Another fruit forward bomb winner from the Dookers. Strong and powerful from the start, don’t drink this unless you love a wine with lots of flavors. Decantered for almost an hour, could have kept it for longer but I couldn’t resist drinking it. Fantastic price to value ratio.

Note: Did not do the Mollydooker Shake - learned about it after the bottle was finished, FWIW. Shortly after decanting, to the nose: pepper with black and red fruit. On the palate, black fruit (mostly black cherry, plus black raspberry and black licorice with slight blackberry) more than red fruit (raspberry and cherry). Spices reach out and grab you with white and black pepper, plus slight cinnamon, chocolate and paprika. As it opened up, forest floor and very slight red meat appear. Tannins are integrated as silky strings. A moderate length but a fuller mouth feel than one expects for a shiraz. The fruit, spice and feel are constant over the taste. Went well with Cajun shrimp, sausage and zucchini on the grill. High alc% did not distract. Great QPR; will buy more and try another 'dooker shiraz.

Fruit takes center stage by a mile; sugar plum, ripe cherry, maybe blackberry, faintly liqueur-like (not nearly as syrupy as higher-end Aussie bruisers, but an echo of it.) The oak nicely complements the fruit and brings out a sweet softness that made me picture fresh-baked black forest cake. There's a peppery nuance here too, and maybe a whiff of sugared bacon (although unfortunately, that blew off pretty quickly.)
Yes, of course its very hot, and it has a similar taste profile to many other high ABV, extracted reds in its price range. But it also has an especially exuberant fruit presence/finish length, and went beautifully with BBQ pork ribs. It was a 91, but day 2 was a surprising little improvement, as the harsh alcohol had mellowed. I could then see what others have described as a sort of strawberry milkshake vibe, as the fruit was all there but the hard edges had softened. Overall more for pleasure than for contemplation, but both styles are important!

Opened last night (+22 hrs ago) didnt poor a glass just lightly put a cork in. Fantastic nose of mixed red and blue fruits. I agree with a previous note that these wines have taken on more bright red fruit notes compared to blueberry puree from years ago. I have a few and thought that maybe 8-10 years would mellow this, but I think the fruit will soften then be even more overwhelmed by the alcohol. So maybe it's best to drink up within 5 years of release.
Very soft but the heat is still there. It's been a while since I've had a wine of this octane but its and old favorite eventhough my palette has changed. If you dig deep you can get some herbal notes on the nose. I'll see how this evolves over the night.
+2 hrs. Good, smooth, more balanced. Probably won't get much better than this. Will revisit the '16 in a few more years, and will always pick up a few each year for something different.

Mollydooker shike'd, then served. Very nice. I was hoping for the blackberry cream sickle of day's past. No such luck. It was a red raspberry cream sickle. All sweet red fruit. Lovely. There, for a while (for a few vintages past), they were almost tasting like Syrah. Where's the fun in that? Listen. I buy these for what I got tonight. They delivered. Nice change of pace for us. Strite up Mollydooker. Fair dinkum from down unda. Did I mention the AVB? (do I need to?) If you know Boxer and you want that, give it a burl.

First hour too huge. I never wrote that before but totally untamed beast. Then plush. Velvety big fruit. Not at all complex. My life is complex. I needed simple. Really nice. Maturing into a much better wine than when I first tried it probably a year ago but ... and I love the Boxer ... this definitely isn't the best vintage ... I think that honour goes to the magic 2015.
I served this in my wine course. Usual high octane fruit bomb with the impression of lots of mulling spices. Comes across as chilled gluhwein. Maybe heat it up and serve with bratwurst outdoors on a cold winter night?

I love being able to teach the wait staff at restaurants how to do the Mollydooker shake. I always get an extra wine glass for the initial pour. People who don't know the wine are amazed at the difference between the two pours. It remains a great wine although Sparky is no longer involved with the winery.

Dense ruby with just a hint of purple and some transparency. Not quite full bodied. At first it is somewhat disjointed with too much alcohol and not very harmonious fruit and spice elements. Raspberry and blueberry candy flavor, a bit insufficient mid palate. Tannins are smooth. If you want to open it now, do the Mollydooker shake, let it open half an hour and enjoy a couple of days later, when it will get harmonized and drinkable. Overall 91/100. 89/100 when just opened.

Was surprised to see I had tasted this wine just a month back and it seems quite a bit different--better. Bottle variation or taster variation? Full of juicy black fruit with plenty of Italian (Australian) herbs, black pepper and black olive. Will buy more and see how it ages--but this bottle might be the best Molly Dooker I have tasted over the last 20? years. Robert Parker still reigns in Australia!

P&P after doing the "Mollydooker Shake". Probably should have decanted this, as it came across pretty hot. A bit of burn in the throat from the 16% alcohol. Could only manage a couple glasses before it became too tedious to drink. I would hold this until 2020 and then drink until 2026.

Cliches fly when reviewing this wine. Over the top. Fruit Bomb. With 16% alcohol and a viscosity that nears syrup it should be undrinkable but I find it enjoyable nevertheless-maybe saved by the Italian herbs and maybe a hint of black olives. Wouldn't want to drink it on a regular basis.

Deep raspberry cordial concentrate. Some will hate it but then then Boxer will knock you out. Zero tannin. Sweet vanilla oak. Weighty but then entirely weightless.

This is a very bold fruity wine. It needs a good decant to get it’s structure in place, and for the aromas to open up. Each bottle I have had has been excellent on day 1 and outstanding on day 2. This wine needs a few years but is really something special.

Mollydooker's 2016 iteration of the Boxer was barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak (42% new, 42% one-year-old and 16% two-year-old). It is a massively concentrated, opaque crimson bruiser that is packed with dark bramble fruit, plum, chocolate, anise and eucalyptus aromas and flavors. Quite ripe, low in acidity and with ample sweet tannins, it somehow stays harmonious when served at the appropriate temperature of approximately 60°F. If the serving temperature rises above 65°F, the taster will be left with a hot mess (as a result of the wine's 16.0% alcohol). This caveat about red wine serving temperature is not unique to this particular wine, but it is more important than ever in this setting. Dense on the mid-palate and finishing with good length, this Shiraz will have many fans. Serve it with any type of grilled red meat. Drink now-2022.
