Yellow-golden, excellent color; aromatic, quince, hint of mint; medium-bodied, quince, mostly primary fruit with some slight wooliness, exceptionally balanced with medium alcohol, medium-plus acidity, richly textured without being heavy; long finish. Excellent Huet demi-sec, still on the youthful side with decades ahead of it. 93 Day 2: Good, but not quite as strong of a showing today. Better on the first day.

PnP that seems like it's already in the zone. Or, maybe it's just toying with me, and it's half asleep. Either way, this bright gold colored wine clear and pretty. There's an avg+ intensity to the perfumes and flavors - nothing profound - and a nice harmony from first glass thru the final one the following evening. I think this is still developing, though what seems a rather low rs will likely keep this from being a super-ager. Such is my fate, too. Drink now or hold, as you prefer.

Powerfully rich high acid wine, deep and complex. I really love Huet, but this bottle like so many other has notes of apple cider vinegar, and POx. I maintain +-70 bottles of various Huet in my cellar, really love it. But so many bottles have VA in the vinegar stage, and/or premox! Huet is the only label I know that is worse than white Burgundy in frequency of bottles flawed by volatile acidity and/or premox. It's a shame because it's such a great wine, but it feels like you have to buy four bottles to get one in ideal shape, two that are passable but flawed, and one that is verging on undrinkable. I wonder if because they're a natural leaning winemaker they are holding back too much on the sulfite?
Or maybe somehow it's a house style? I'm not bothered by white wines that are slightly sherried intentionally, but with QA it seems as if the sherrying is random - same wines from the same vintage can range from perfectly clean to undrinkably oxidized.
In any case, as much as I love it, I'm going to slow down my buying of Huet ...
Served blind Bright gold Bright pear aromas with the faintest hint of botrytis today. Just off dry, pear and barely oxidized note with a slightly bitter finish. This is really quite fabulous and seemingly ageless. Tons of structure. Lovely

Light gold Some initial VA which blew off Then bright ripe pear aromas, some oxidized notes Off dry, balanced, but light acidity, some noticeable alcohol, but overall a lovely chenin, full of flavor and richness

Consistent with my notes from a year ago - except for my rating, which I now raise to
2 on a scale of minus 1 to 3. This wine succeeds (in a less than perfect vintage) in hitting all the right notes - a balance of fruit and acidity, a profile of chalk and stone and mineral, and a delicate natural sweetness.

Light for a demi sec. stone fruits and ripe lemon. Versatile, enjoyable on its own and with strong flavoured foods e.g. spice without being obscured or obscuring. Medium- finish.

SLDS April 2018: Melon, pear, pineapple and light herbs on the nose. Good concentration and fruit purity, with a lovely sweet and sour mix and acidity whipping through into a long finish. Really cracking stuff, I went out and bought a couple more after this!

Huet 2016 Horizontal (San Francisco, CA): Aromatic, quince, richness; palate is complex, has an interesting depth, savory with almost a mint, basil, quince; medium-plus finish. 93

Huet 2016 horizontal (Ashish's): Aromatic nose. Slight white mushrooms, slight parmesan rind, waxy floral nose. Slight bruised peach. Slight tangerine. Sweeter than the Haut-Lieu, on par with the Le Mont - feels around 30g/L. Slightly elevated alcohol - 13%. High acid with a nice waxy midpalate.

New Release Huet Vouvray, Mostly 2016 (Dig Wines, San Francisco): While the weight and feel of this were not terribly different than the Clos du Bourg Sec, its lowish amount of residual sugar did make the balance better. I still don't see this reaching the same level that this bottling can achieve in vintages such as 2002, 2005, and 2015. It is just missing a little snap and excitement.

Hardly any residual sugar, good acidity, red apple, some spice, pear, some nutty notes. Quite elegant on the palate.

Deep gold. So complex; balancing the suggestion of sweetness with juicy acidity. Full spectrum of chenin aromas/flavors. Long way to go.

Domaine Huet with Sarah Hwang (Armit Wines): Honeysuckle to apricot. Showed more range of flavours but seemed more closed than the Haut-Lieu tasted just before it.
