The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Slightly deeper than the 2017. Riper black cherry on the nose. Not huge but so well balanced, slightly sappy, gorgeous blackberry and cherry, herb, and soil. Driving tannins that penetrate every corner of the mouth. Wow, immensely impressive. This could turn out to be one of the great vintages of Clos des Lambrays.

Medium purple. Vibrant nose with crunchy dark and red cherries, floral notes, forst floor, red berries nutmeg and cinnamon. Medium weight with medium tannins and high acidity that provides frenshness. Elegant and savoury with lovely texture. Not that complex but the fruit is still relatively primary. Very young wine, but already shows how good it is. 94-95

Delicious fruit forward wine. Dark ruby color, dense pinot color. Nose of black and red fruits, strawberries, spices, game. Drinks older than its 5 years of age. On the palate delicate but also intense, lots going on, superb lift mid palate and a long and spicy candied fruit finish. Medium bodied and quite hedonistic. Lovely wine. And a crowd pleaser.

Not at an early stage enjoyable state for me, as some 2016s are....dense primary fruit with little detail, good acidity and some dry tannin on the finish. I’m sitting on my other bottles for a good 5 years

I have had this wine 10 times in the last 30 days. Love it. I have tasted a zillion vintages of Lambrays and this may be the best young vintage I have ever had—next to the 2010.

Pale purple with a pink hue. A strongly pink floral nose, and red cherry, nutmeg and cinnamon. Lightly biting tannins, while very lightweighted and elegant, and fresh acids, and intense floral flavours with a good balance of red fruits and savoury briny minerals, and a slight hint of minty greens. A very young wine, but already drinking very nicely. Great wine!

Decent weight. Rich, gamey, blackcurranty nose doesn't feel that young - there's a lovely waft of fine wine. More gorgeous dense fruit on the palate; deep but very fresh and juicy. Hedonistic and already so drinkable. I didn't want it to end!

Musique & Vin Pre-Concert Dégustation (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Tasting, brief note. Lots of spice with whole cluster character clearly in control, alongside very ripe cherry aromas and flavors, just short of the jammy borderline. Slightly tannic finish surprises. A good vintage for Lambrays, even if not up to the relative quality of the past few vintages. 90-92 point potential.

Clos de Lambrays Vertical 1989-2015; 1/1/2017-9/22/2019: During a Clos de Lambrays tasting. This is very young, primary, still in barrel. Smells like a young Longuedoc wine. Rich and ripe dark fruit. Good material here but hard to tell if this will turn into an elegant Pinot once mature. Hard to judge. 90-94

Barrel sample. Brilliant. Very serious. Rich fruit with lots of minerals. Long. No sense of overdense or overtannic yet conveys a great depth. Slight concern about the apparent effortlessness of the structure (?). Ought to be delicious in time. Very persistent fragrance left in glass. However a substantial price hike compared to 2015 and not buying as this is simply too expensive for me now.

From barrel (in what I guess is to be the eventual blend). Just as stunning, but rather different than the 2015. Superlatives all around again; cardamom, clove, and oak a bit more apparent to start but loads of pure strawberry fruit too. On the palate, more of the same; complex strawberry fruit, with more spice and great energy/intensity, but very silky just the same. Beautiful, elegant tannic finish.

Pronounced nose intensity with red fruits, strawberry, spices, flora. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Still youthful.

Pretty closed but got better over 3 hours. Dark fruit and floral notes. Touch of pepper. Better fruit than the 2013. Slightly dry finish.
