More Failla than Hirsch, as it shows an upfront, juicy quality, and only later does the earthy, anchored element of Hirsch come through. Probably needs more cellar time, but oh well.

Based on previous notes it seems as though my patience has been rewarded with this wine. Red fruit on the nose, spice maybe? Red fruit on the palate, not much acid, light tannins. Some additional time in the cellar might make this more interesting but there’s no reason to hold back now.

Pale garnet, with tawny edges. Light body and low acidity. Nice fruit with hints of pepper and cinnamon. Eminently drinkable and delicious. Higher pricing (with shipping) leads to a lower QPR.

Yikes and wow. Best of the 3 Failla pinots (against a 2017 Keefer and Savoy) by a mile. The cool climate comes through in spades with all kinds of savory notes and sous bois. Nicely proportioned with good underlying fruit and balanced acidity. This could be a dead ringer for a Beaune 1ere

Drank too soon. Needs more time. I suspect it will be very good in years to come. Nice nose of chocolate covered cherries, a touch of sweet tobacco. Palate is restrained. Hints of rhubarb, a little black cherry, and, surprisingly, a touch roasted meats.

This is where the insanity begins. So much going on here, from the nose all the way to the finish. Too young to evaluate fully, but you can really see the gorgeous cellaring potential of this vineyard. High tannins, high acidity, high flavor intensity, long finish. Tastes like Germany meets Burgundy meets Oregon, but nothing like I've ever tasted from California. Ticks off all the boxes for a great wine, but if you ask me, I'd rather stick to Seven Springs. Just my personal cheap-ass taste, nothing to do with objectivity.

Dark ruby with rich cherry aromas mixed with baking spices. Elegantly weighted, evolving to more secondary flavors with time open. Opened with the Failla 16 Seven Springs and very sightly preferred.

Ripe, intense and luscious, dripping with black cherries and spiced blood plum. It has layers of flavour and is a big and intense wine but remains light on its feet. With air there are engaging notes of violets and black earth.

West of West DC (The Hecht Washington DC): Very unique and interesting if not exactly my thing. Spicy and peppery which I don't normally associate with a pinot. Appreciate this for being a bit different.

West Sonoma Coast Tasting (Washington, DC): Aromas of gushing cherries, spices, leather. Bright and elegant on the palate with lots of savory elements, earth, spice, leather. So pretty.

Balanced. Red fruit and black tea and plenty of acid, with great savory notes and a long finish. Drinking very well.

Delicious wine with now settled tannic structure and reluctant fruit emanating smoothly from a delicious enjoyable wine. Please enjoy and appreciate.

red fruit on the nose, some floral notes. Bright red fruit, cherry, soft tannins and a nice cherry/strawberry finish. Yummy.

Bay Area Wine Tour; 1/11/2019-1/15/2019 (Bay Area, CA): Dark cherries on nose. Richer, more structured wine. Firm tannins but lovely fruit core, with good acid. Needs 3-5 years.
