We are big fans of Caymus Zinfandel. I sorted our Cellar by drinking window and, come 2022, this 2016 popped up. I imagine we must of saved this to see how it would age, but I decided to open it up. I saw another review that said the reader preferred the Caymus Zin at a younger age. I don't know if I would go that far. The 2016 tasted fine, and, in fact, without a whole lot of change. But, I would say is that this is not an age worthy wine. Again, we always buy and enjoy the Caymus Zinfandel, no matter or perhaps because of its difference to other California Zinfandel's. However, for this wine, it does make sense to follow the wine's aging guideline.

Mellow berries on the nose, very sweet and jammy. Been a few years since I opened my last bottle of this vintage, I think I prefer this Zin a little younger while it still has some character and a little more bite to it.

Still singing. Had it with some Margherita pizzas, salads and some friends on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Paired nicely with the cigar smoke wafting over from some dudes kickin' back close by.

As dynamic and seductive as it was at the winery. Even moreso. Dark fruit and strong alcohol on the nose, but not overpowering. Rich mid-palette and a delightfully grippy finish. Like an old friend you want to spend the rest of the day with.

Fruit forward, decanted for 30 mins could use another few years in the cellar

A well executed Zinfandel from a consistently reliable winery. But too sweet and jammy for my preference. Gets better on night 2, but still too sweet.

Typical Wagner fruit bomb, but not in a bad way.
