Color, clear red with brown hue. 1st nose, oak and macerated fruit; 2nd nose, red fruits and roasted vanila. On the palate, great balance of fruits and acidity with a long finish.

Clear intense red color, 1st nose, red fruits and herbs; 2nd nose, roasted oak and dirt. On the palate, medium to big body, pleasant with balance of fruits and soft tannins with big finish. It is getting better and better with aging.

Not pleased with this one. Believe the cork was compromised/faulty. After removing the capsule, I noticed wine had leaked though and the cork was completely saturated. While this can happen from cork drying out, that would only have happened at the winery. The wine was muted, but not overly oxidized. Reserve is one of Boxwood’s better wines, however, this particular bottle was not. More to come regarding the remaining bottles in my cellar.

Deep ruby color. Black currant and dark cherry fold into exotic notes of cardamom, spice and cigar box on the nose. The finish has great length and depth, lingering with chalky tannin and dark fruits – altogether a wide range of intricate flavor from beginning to end. Full bodied.

Really liked this, loads of cassis, cherry, strawberry, violets (noticeable cab franc on the profile), milk chocolate, clove, vanilla, cinnamon, on the floral side (also due to the cab franc). 48% cab franc, 25% merlot, 22% cab sav., 5% petit verdot.

Boxwood winery (at the tasting room): 48 % cabernet Franc, 25 % merlot, 22 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 % petit Verdot. 12 months on French oak, 1/3 of which is new. 13.5 % ABV.
Fruit driven and with a soft attack, but not without elegance on the palate. I rather like this as an easy drinker. Too highly priced though to be really interesting, at USD 45.

Dark ruby color. Nose is the darkest of the three Bdx blends we tried here today. Chambord, cooked blackberry, spiced wood, touch of cherry juice. Medium body, medium tannin, low-medium acid. Alcohol a little hot at the back. A little underwhelming on the entry but better on the mid-palate and finish. Nice oak integration. This is good but...$45? I get it - land is expensive here, labor is expensive, and from the size of the winery/tasting stations/outside seating, Boxwood aren't making a lot of money from "day-out" visits/local tourism like a lot of other wineries in the area are. I might spend $22 on the Trellis, but this wine is too expensive for what it is. The tasting sheet helpfully tells me that James Suckling gave this 93 points. Maybe that'll persuade some people. 13.5%, $45. +1/2

48% cab franc, 25% merlot, 22% cab sav, 5% petit verdot. Interesting bordeaux blend, drinks very much like a right bank. Thinner than I was expecting but nice black fruit, dark cherries, vanilla, chocolate and spices on the palate. Mildly tannic but ends nicely with said spiciness. Very interested to see if this will be more concentrated in 5 years.

Has elements of Bordeaux. Not bad for a VA wine
