Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. 53% Grenache, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Syrah. Stunning nose of red fruits, olive brine, smoked meats and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Rich, plush and savory. Strawberry, olive tapenade, saline and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. As always the Grenache is the hero here but the Cabernet Sauvignon adds compelling structure and power. Best over the next several years.

PnP, consumed over three hours. Savory Rocks umami throughout, this mostly showcased the Grenache in the first hour or so, then really started to lean into the power of the Cab and Syrah, but displayed finesse from start to finish. Seems to be in a great window now, but also would like to see some tertiary development with more age.

Drinking beautifully now, delicious Grenache fruits, short to medium finish. Silky smooth, if tasting blind would not have picked out the Syrah component.

Distinctly shows as a stablemate of the Cayuse/Horsepower family.
Color/App: light/medium ruby core -> diffuse, light ruby rim; no bricking. Very Rocks bouquet of Manzanilla olives, pomegranate, raspberries, roasted meat and forest floor. For the first two hours this vibrated with intense Grenache vivacity; after that, the structure and dark, duskiness of the Cabernet/Syrah started muscling forward. After vacu-vinning and holding for a day, the Grenache was definitely in the backseat -- though yelling to come back up front. Palate of kirsch, cranberries, olive brine, plums, roasted meat (again), underbrush and a touch of back-end bitters (like the '12) that's pretty appealing. Acidity shows much better than the 2012 vintage to my mind; this is well balanced, delicious, long, and shows what many posters note as umami. Honestly, I liked it better in its first 2 hours when the Grenache was ascendant, though others may prefer to wait (either in the cellar for a bit longer or with a longer decant) to let the other varietals shine a bit more. YMMV. 94-95 over the first 2 hours, 93 after a day.

Ruby red in color. 14.2% ABV. 53% Grenache, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Syrah. Savory nose of red fruits, olive brine, smoke and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Rich and concentrated. Cherries, bacon fat, olives and minerals on the palate. The finish is very long and smooth. The Grenache really stands out here and the Rocks District footprint is ever present. Best over the next 2-4 years.

On initial PnP, strongly sulfuric on the nose. Blew off after about an hour and started showing off in a big way. Savory Rocks notes, olives and salinity, with Grenache driven fruit and Cab Sauv stuffing. Smooth and delicious.

In my last note six months ago I threatened to hold, not drink my remaining bottle and now look what I went and did. Rocks funk, green olives, pie spice and white pepper dominate the nose, while lush red plums, pomegranate and pie spices fill out the palate. Drinks superbly immediately upon opening so decanted not needed/recommended. Aced the match with a Spanish treatment of pork tenderloin painted with a slurry of smoked paprika and oregano.

Double decant. Consumed over 3 hours. Much more in the way of funk this time(mostly from the nose). Grenache front and center this time around as well. Raspberry, Cherry, blood orange, herbaceous and floral with a stong minerality. Almost bitter, peaty finish goes on for over a minute. An experience to be sure as the wine drinks more like a cocktail. Sexy saline quality and gorgeous texture are the highlights for me.
Day two is not as complex but much more approachable. Really great wine.
Savory blueberry, sweet cherry umami, olive tapenade, salted meats, sweet herbs. Distinctly from The Rocks and goes toe to toe with its Cayuse siblings. If opening again, I would double my 90 min decant as it was only fully rounding into form for the last couple of glasses. My only gripe is it was lacking a bit of acid. A total pleasure umami bomb - 93+.

PnP'd. The very very light funk we experienced a year ago is now true Rocks-ness in all its glory on the nose. On the palate, this wine has put on a lot of weight in the past year with pomegranate fruit, spice, cactus pear, green olives and white pepper. Although only 50ish% grenache, the cabernet and syrah here are less stand alone characters than elements that elevate the grenache to its best possible self. Impressive progress, and a fantastic partner for homemade corned beef hash. That said, I'd hold rather than drink remaining bottles. There's more excitement to come.

Pleasant Rocks funk. A bit disjointed on first night. Despite a couple hours of air, the CS and Grenache were battling each other. After 2 nights in the refrigerator, there was a fuller body and more harmony.

Sorry but Not a fan, second bottle, same results, I blew the first one off as maybe a bad bottle. I have a bunch of Cayuse, HP and No Girls and this is not close to those by any means. Has some sort of high acidic soda taste along with primary alcohol and a sharp finish. Hidden behind the the tart high acidic taste is some cherry fruit and a hint of funk but this is not my bag. Bad bottle again maybe, but tough pill to swallow at $70+. Had others taste and had same opinions, gave it time to open and still didn't settle. 85pts
Day 2 much better, I will raise my score. Big difference a day makes, gone is the soda taste replace by a creamy fruit cobbler, longer smoother finish.

Very grenache-driven, though I believe syrah and maybe tempranillo are also in the mix. Showed best in a burgundy bowl. Pretty aromatic nose, pomegranate and cactus pear on the palate with a touch of parsley. Medium weight, almost feminine. Decanted two hours and drunk over two more, and white pepper started showing up only near the end. Ditto some funk but not much funk (and I like funk, so it would have been welcome), and from reading notes there seems to be some bottle variation as others clearly experienced more than we did. A great wine, could easily pass for European.

Not as funky as normal Cayuse bottlings, different winemaker/ideas with similar fruit can show very different results in bottle. More red fruited, maybe lifted floral? Not soft, but less intense. Candied red fruit, raspberry, strawberry. Olive, wet tobacco.

Double decant. Consumed over several hours and the wine got better and better as it warmed up to room temperature. Layers upon layers of of raspberry and blackberry, olive brine and smoked ham. Very Long lip smacking finish! Just enough funk in my opinion though I have found it is not welcomed by everyone. People seem to love it or hate it. If you were going to try and get someone to give the funk a chance this might be a nice place to start. Would never have guessed the unusual blend here if I didn’t already know. Probably would have thought it was a rocks syrah with some viognier. It’s a positively delicious wine.

I opened this with friends on 6/22/18. It had a deep, rich, fragrant bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, forest floor, cola and cocoa aromas. The palate was rich, bright and lively with flavors that followed the nose.
