Checked in another of these, in 375 format. Definitely not as strong as the '13 or '15 in my opinion. More closed, dark fruit and mineral; I really need to sit on my remaining bottles a few more years. If you have these, I recommend a good decant.

Enjoyed the bottle, but I expected more for the price and vintage. Releasing some tertiary notes now, but a little weak and thinning. Short curve on this bottle, but new world is like that sometimes. I wouldn’t purchase another bottle at this price point, but drink ‘em if you got ‘em. There are definitely better Napa 14s in this price range. DJV

Out of 375. Solid and well made, but showing less interest than the '13. Mostly black fruit, some mineral. With air some bramble appears, but this still feels closed down right now. I think it will be better with another couple years of age.

Opened a second bottle to make sure it wasn’t a one off. Flat and unimpressive. Not much there, especially from such a storied winery. Don’t know what to do with the other bottles I have not very excited about this wine.

Cherry pipe tobacco, black cherry, graham crackers, and some menthol and cherry skins on the finish. Tannins are slightly chewy, acidity is fresh and balanced. Drinking well now and for the next couple of years.

Not the best nose, starting to come across a bit aged, lots of old wood, bureau. A slight lacquer/varnish note with dried figs/prunes; better fruit on the palate, nice elegance but fully mature. Starting to go a bit sickly. Drink up.

Plum and stewed fruit on the nose. Black fruit on the palate. A little sweetness. Tannins nicely integrated. A lovely acidity to give balance. Nice length. Only criticism is mid palate - felt it was a little bland. Other than that very enjoyable!

The tasting notes from others get it right, black pepper, black fruits, dusty tannin. Drinking really well right now, well integrated and balanced at 14.2% alcohol. This may improve in time, but based on what I look for in a Napa Cab this is at the peak.

The wine looked violet in colored with slow legs and the beginning of sediment in the bottle. It smelled and tasted like black pepper, blackberry and red currant with a medium/full body. The wine had a smooth texture with a medium finish. Paired well with sushi.

Bell pepper and sweet fruit on the nose. Lots of black fruit on the palate - medium acidity, tannins beginning to integrate but still on show. Medium length. I have to say drinking well now but I suspect this will improve over the next 2-3 years.

Tasted for the third time for the Super Bowl, alongside '95 Stag's Cab + 2000 Stags' Petite Syrah. Out of solo cup, so not quite the tasting of two prior bottles direct from winery, for which no formal notes were taken; however the first of an auction steal @ $36. A terrific wine. Medium bodied but with velvet weight, bramble-like tannin. Violets, tobacco leaf and blackberry compote on the nose resolve nicely with thorough, dark red and black driven fruits on the palate. Still grippy, Cab Franc evident, this certainly can use more time to come to. Craves a steak. The earthquake vintage.

CEIBS dinner #3. Deep ruby color. Aroma of blackberry and wet grass. Dry, medium high acidity, medium high tannins, taste of blackberry, plum, leather, black cherry. Full bodied. Long finish. Feels a bit tight though, needs more cellaring.

Napa Masterclass - Guildsomm - Kelli White (Ungrafted, SF): Deep ruby color. Not very aromatic - reticent nose. Slight mid-ripeness blackcurrant. After the Groth, this feels dilute. Structurally CA Cab: 14.5% alcohol, high (hard) tannins, medium acid - doesn't really stick out. The finish is nonexistent and this feels quite short. Maybe it needs time?

Great very smooth creme the cassis. Really shows what napa cabernet is about. Very smooth tannins and ripe fruits, but still balanced.
