Opened this at Summer Hill over lunch to celebrate a birthday with my best friend. We had the Zucchini Conserva, Porcini & Chicken Liver Paté, Classic Roast Chicken and Brussels Sprouts Amandine.
Decanted for an hour before consuming. Dark brooding purplish red in colour. Dark red fruits on the nose and palate: cherries, berries, black coffee, pepper, licorice, tobacco.
Like the white, this bottle will benefit from further aging in the bottle (or cellar) for the elements to integrate further to present a more wholesome wine.

A fantastic base cuvée from this still somewhat underrated Châteauneuf domain with, in this grand vintage, all components in the right proportions: the lushness of the Grenache boosted by the power of the Mourvèdre and Syrah, plenty of ripe tannins, optimal acidity and a lingering finish. The 15% alcohol is very well integrated. Drink this beauty now and over the next 5-10 years according to your personal preference. This wine promises fireworks for the special cuvèes “Chante le Merle” and “A la gloire de mon Grand Père”.

Strong 89 points, which is my way of suggesting that although 89 is not usually what aspire to drink (when it can be helped), this wine is quite respectable from the perspective of objective analysis and hard to criticize finding it on the menu in a French bistro. In fact, one positive is the balance, which to me is often off on CdP on account of the traditionally higher alcohol.
Decanted briefly and poured. Initially tight. It slowly opened with time. Med nose of black cherry, blackberry, currant with a dose of oak. The wine is developing. Palate med intensity medium finish. Med+ acidity, medium alcohol, med+ body. Med tannins. Can cellar for a few years although not one to forget about. In summary, a pleasurable purchase in the restaurant but not one I plan to invest in.
The cellar and tasting room of this domain are located on the northern border of the town and excellent wines have been made in recent years, making them join tne elite of the appellation. This basic cuvée is made from about 75% Grenache, about 10% of each Syrah and Mourvèdre and a tiny amount of other allowed grape varieties. In this top vintage a captivating wine was made with a deep blood-red color and on the nose and palate super ripe cherries, blackcurrants, licorice, provencal herbs and garrigue. The tannins are abundant but very ripe and the aftertaste is long and fresh. This is irrestible now but can easily be kept for 5-10 years. This wine could be less appreciated by tasters who are adverse to very ripe fruit and a hefty dose of alcohol. This can be kept in check by serving the wine cool (14°C): it will quickly warm up in the glass to 15-16°C, an ideal drinking temperature.

On PnP, this was fairly aromatic and open. But it's a somewhat blocky, angular wine and it never really developed with air over three hours. This is an old school style CdP that I'm not sure is worth the tariff over a good CdR.

Slow ox'ed for over 3 hours. Medium garnet-ruby in colour. Nose of black cherries, raspberry jelly, and plums with some garrigue. On the palate, there are peppery red berry fruits, red licorice, green herbs, and tobacco are noted. Medium bodied with a medium+ finish.

Booo - weak aromas of prune, burnt sugar, herbs. No good for the the taste 'invitation". Taste - basically the same thing plus lovely, long finish with spice . Not too much else to add.

One of the best values in CDP I've had in quite a while. Quite robust with very strong red fruits flavors, including a wallop of raspberry. I like CDP's that are a good slap in the face, and this one does not disappoint. I like to drink CDP's relatively young, but you could definitely hold this one for a few years if you prefer.

Bright, high-toned acidity. Bold red and black fruit profile with hints of leather, herbs, pepper and meat. Didn’t really come together but potential is there. Hold 3-5 more years.

Dark purple with a wide translucent margin. Needs more air: thin, watery, and sour right out of the bottle. Will check again tomorrow. Day 2 not too much more unfortunately. A little more structure, a little more fresh and ripe fruit on the nose. But not really that much. A little more fruit on the palate. But not that much. I'm beginning to wonder about the Southern Rhone, to be honest. Striking out way too often.
Brought to a friend's for dinner because the last bottle was great immediately after opening and I wasn't sure if he would hold or drink. Sure enough we decided to open, and it did not disappoint. Wonderful cherry nose burst from the bottle as soon as it was opened, paired beautiful with Greek-style lamb. Clearly this will develop nicely over the next ten years - the mid-palate is not as weighty as I'm sure it will be - but it's drinking very enjoyably right now.

Southern Rhône trip with Rainer. Tasted at the Domaine. Dark ruby. Mixed berries, herbal and spice notes, with good acidity, slightly coarse tannin and good length. The alcohol came through and the wine showed a slight bitterness on the backend. Did not knock my socks off.

Pop and pour and drank over a few hours. Beautiful cherry on the first taste, wonderful balance, paired incredibly well with chevre - revealed an almost honey-like flavor. Very young, incredible to drink now but will easily age for 10+ years

Opaque purple color, forward nose with notes of cola and ripe fruit, medium body, fruit on pallet, good acidity, a little bitterness on the palate, dark fruits on the finish

Ok this is gorgeous and has so much beautiful deep red and purple fruit. No obtrusive oak and it's not goopy. Deep cherry and raspberry and some earth, pepper and a tiny bit of leather. Would be a 94 but man the alcohol burn is big on this one. It kills it for me. I used to love cdp but maybe I cant handle it anymore. I want to but my esophagus doesnt.

Served by the glass. An ordinary yet well-known wine. Recognizable as a ChdP but without texture or complexity. Aromas of spicy spices, red berries. Soft on the palate with tamed tannins and a short length. Simply enjoyable.
Servido por copas. Un vino muy normalito aunque bien conocido. Reconocible como un ChdP pero sin textura ni complejidad. Aromas a especias picantes, a bayas rojas. Suave al paladar con taninos domados y una escasa longitud. Sencillamente disfrutable.

Finesse styled, concentrated, fresh and polished with an elegant lean to the sweet, ripe fruits, there is lift, character and complexity. The wine was blended from 75% Grenache, 12% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 1% Vaccarese and 1% Counoise and 1% Cinsault.
