Tannins are well-integrated and this is drinking well now. Palate shows blackberry and some licorice. Still a bit drying on the finish. Not quite living up to its ratings and price, but decent.

80/20 Grenache/Mourvèdre; 15%ABV. The alcohol is very dominant on the nose. On the palate there is lavender and cherry with some olive skin savouriness. Lots of weight and intensity with lovely fine tannins. This has plenty of pedigree but I do wonder if the high alcohol will continue to dog this wine. Revisit in 2028.

2016 Montirius Gigondas Terrres dea Aînés showed a good combination of power and elegance, with a pure expression of perfectly ripe fruit without oak flavours. The 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre was clear and deep ruby in colour, with aromas of ripe dark cherries, blackberries and bacon fat, in floral violets and earthy undertones. On the palate, it was full-bodied, spicy, with medium acidity and medium-high level of chalky tannin. The finish was rather short with some bitterness to it. The 63-hectare vineyard has been certified organic and biodynamic since 1999. Personally, I found this wine lacking the depth, complexity or delineation to be worthy of high praises among American critics, except that it had the full-bodied richness, ripe fruit and elevated alcohol that reflected typical American preference. Some bottle age might bring out the extra dimensions of the wine, but unoaked Grenache-based Rhône blends are not known to age gracefully over a decade.

Earthy, spicy, fresh and herbal, the wine offers a juicy, peppery, dark red berry and olive note in the finish. The wine delivers lots of old-vine intensity. After full desetmming, the grapes are blended using 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre.

Extra richness and ripeness here versus the Vacqueyras. Darker inflections. Lovely approachability as well here, fruit open and seductive; creamy tannins. Gorgeous velvety texture.

Deep red with purplish edge. Tannins have softened. Strong notes of anise.

Sharp nose - contrasted by smooth follow. Medium body. Subtle Rhone flavor, weaker than than alternatives. Would be a good choice for a soft bottle.
