Aromas of potpourri, raspberry Grenache, cherry, chocolate and raspberry. Flavors of raspberry Grenache, cherry, boysenberry and dried herb. Ends with a 25-30 second finish with raspberry and chocolate notes.

Nose: not super expressive, floral, red fruits. Pretty and delicate. Taste: Medium concentration, soft, elegant, black cherry, a pinch of salt and umami, backed by a subtle oaky finish. There's a soft carpet of tannins also once the fruit fades at the finish.
Not sure how I feel about this tonight, mainly due to being conflicted by my previous high score. My tasting notes now match fairly well from my notes 4 years ago, but this isn't wowing me tonight. Is there such a thing as a dumb phase for CdP...? Maybe it will be better tomorrow.
Day 2: I feel better about it but can't really say for certain much has changed. Definitely more grippy though.

Twin Cities Wine Club Rhone Tasting (Edina, MN): Another great showing and most intensity of the 5 bottles tasted tonight. Funk, spice, pepper and Garrigue. Got better throughout the night and was softer in a good way later. Just really nice pepper notes on the finish. Will age through 2030 comfortably. Great value. 93+ points

94 May 2021 👃 earthy and perfume. 👅 Candied cherry, vanilla, supported by some very mild oak. Rich. Smoooooth. On second day, the candied cherry is there but subdued which is even better than on day 1.

Spectacular bottle. We tasted this in the Sabon Wine Cellar when we were in France, and it was better tonight. Great fruit and a very long finish. We just love Chateauneuf de Pape wines!

Sunfish Cellars Grand Tasting (Just $10) (Sunfish Cellars/I Nonni Minneapolis, MN): Had this at a tasting and this was amazing. Spice, red currants, floral, stone and minerals. Medium to long finish. Balanced wine and drinking amazingly well right now. This should drink well now to 2025. 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah

This shows great promise going forward. Almost non descript on PNP. But after 1 hour aeration a cornucopia of intriguing scents and flavors emerged. Mostly primary fruit of blackberry, garrigue, and gobs of black/red licorice. It will be fun to watch this develop considering the great QPR on this wine.

Deep, dark reddish-purple color, almost opaque. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of garrigue & floral notes, Provençal herbs with pepper, earth/dusty, some spices, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with earthiness, herbs, pepper, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing although it needs additional time to fully develop at which time it may rate even higher.

Take incredibly ripe, sweet, fresh, black raspberries, blend them with cracked pepper, add in silk and velvet for texture and that is what you have going on here. The wine was produced blending 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah.

The nose was dark and rich, displaying fig paste, plum sauce, black cherry, sweet and savory spice, lavender, tobacco, and hints of crushed violets. On the palate, I found silky textures offset by a twang of brisk acidity, as lively red and black fruits washed across the senses, leaving spicy accents, minerals and dark inner floral tones in their wake. The finish was long and surprisingly fresh, as the wines dark fruit brightened through zesty acidity, while savory minerality saturated the senses. The poise and definition here was amazing, showing a remarkably lifted and vibrant expression of the 2016 vintage.

Tannic, ripe bold fruit. Nice wine, but might be better in a couple of years. Was definitely better on day 2. Hold for a couple for years. 91-93+
