  • Another excellent but still very young bottle, like many 2016s. Still, this was fun to taste again, as it opened up with a decant and there are just so many great things in this wine, from the level of ripe but not intrusive fruit, to the perfect but clearly perceivable tannin to the pretty high acidity providing tension and freshness. Great length, too. This just needs some more time, but a excellent wine in the making. (95+)

  • The Cailles was tight, but opened up slowly during the dinner. Nose of raspberry and black cherries, this is more towards the black fruit end of the Pinot Spectrum. A significant mineral undertone that slowly loses it grip as it is allowed to breathe. Good and long length here, but a bit rustic feel finishing with some gritty tannins. This has potential, but needs more time or at least 2 hours of decant…

  • this has room to go up to 93 or 94 pts, it is full'ish in body, with dark red cherry, great acidity (which I am seeing in many red burg 16's), a smoky / old mountain cabin nose... really nice, this was a test bottle from a case just rec'd

  • Light ruby garnet. Black cherries, coffee, candied lilacs on the nose with a fine filigree of soil tones. Concentrated dark fruit on the palate, dense but light, smooth tannins, with a lovely aromatic fringe of acid. Long finish. Like ripples of sunshine on a dark forest pool.

  • Even if I wrote „give it another 3-5 years“ I couldn‘t resist temptation and opened another bottle. Beautifully pure, layered and pretty complex even if still young, after 2 hours of decanting it is showing beautiful notes of black cherries, blackberries, raspberries, some dark mineral notes, dark chocolate, candied dark flowers, some sweet spices too, also some animalic notes. It‘s medium-full bodied, with excellent persistence, it has pretty high acidity providing a lot of freshness to the big frame, also some medium-high but extremely polished tannin. Long finish with layers over layers of fruit. Lot of potential here. (95+)

  • Still very young, but hinting at its great class. Darker ruby/garnet color. Still primary, with some hints of oak (spices, vanilla), but also plenty of dark fruit, blackberries, dark cherries, also some red raspberries, menthol, dark minerality and some crushed violets too. It‘s medium-full bodied, with excellent mid-palate persistence, medium-high but super silky and polished tannin, there is also excellent pretty high acidity. Very long finish with plenty of youhful complexity. I would give this another 3-5 years to open up aromatically, but this is another fantastic wine from this great producer. All this needs is a little more time. (95+)

  • Coravin glass and the finished the bottle two days later. A fairly dark garnet in the glass. Very aromatic with plenty of wood spices and dark berries. On the palate also some oak but again very aromatic and expressive, nice acidity provides a lift, medium tannins but soften with air , good length too.
Excellent, would give it 3-4 years for the wood aromas too calm down a bit and integrate with the fruit but don’t think one has to wait until 2028-2048 as per indicated drinking window here as this is already very accessible and fun to drink.
