A short decant and it was incredibly delicious. Polished, resolved tannins, fragrant and youthful dark fruited aromatics and a joy to show my friends who have little experience with aged CA Cabernets. It out-shown a very good 2008 Pahlmeyer, and was fantastic. I really wish I had more bottles of this. Purchased recently from what I can clearly see a very well kept collection.

Smooth as can be. Subtle plum and berry flavors. Decanted for an hour, but was fine at the get go. This was my last of these. Had it with friends for first vaccinated get together. Wish I had more.

Just a beautiful wine with nice silky yet substantial mouthfeel. Smooth. Pure beam of cassis fruit. Makes you smile! Some fine tannins and some acidic lift on the finish. Touch of mocha and cedar. Stayed about the same over 2 days. Drink up.

Dark crimson in color. Not much on the nose, but I can't say I focused on it. A rich, moderately complex, and youthful wine. If you like the modern Napa style, this is a very fine example and showed no signs of imminent decline. I wish I had more to check-in at 5 and 10 years. Very enjoyable.

- It's in total harmony with a medium/full body. Satin-Like texture with a long finish - Oh my my, oh hell yes, drink it cause its best. Did I say smooth. Not yet... smooth from first sip to the end. Decanted for 1 hr. Drank over the next. Has highly developed cabernet flavors. Strong fruit that floats on the tongue. Smooth.

Really beautiful mature wine that with some decanting beat out a 2007 Frank Family Reserve cab and 2003 Pavie Macquin on this night. Nose of fruit and tobacco. Silky ruby wine with nice balance and a long finish. Tobacco and leather notes on the palate but pure fruit was the star.

Dark Fruit galore. Could have used some time in a decanter. I'll wait for my last one for a few years. These are probably in the middle of the maturity stage of their evolution, and have no signs of fading anytime soon.

Dark fruits and chocolate on the nose. Good structure, still plenty of time. Classic cab flavors of currant, dark chocolate and a little cedar. 92 points

Decant for 1 hour. Nose is all cassis and black cherries. The palate shows pure black fruits with loads of lead pencil, kirsch, framboise and juicy black fruits of currant, black cherries and black pomegranate. A very nicely structure that demands your attention. Phenomenal mouth feel that is all elegance and class. Near perfect lithe acidity and a tannin base that really can go many more years. Long black fruit filled finish that never wavers from its black fruit profile. A real stunner. Wish I brought this to CLONYC 28, the 2001 Napa Cab tasting.

Very nice cool purple nose; mouth-filling; big fruit - strawberry, blackberry; long finish with good interest; opens up very nicely in the glass; plenty of life left

This wine was beautiful. Decanted it for a few hours and was a bit nervous sipping it throughout the first couple of hours. By the time that we arrived at the restaurant, the wine was singing. Elegant and powerful at the same time. Mature cab flavors blended in with vibrant dark fruits and chocolate. This one is a HOFer.

This was one of the top wines from a 2001 cab/blend dinner (10 wines opened). This was a hit throughout the evening - changed but was always good. Plenty of berry fruit, tannins are well integrarted. Drinking well now. Will probably hold for a few more years, but why wait.

Saturday night - steaks with Karl and John - had 2 2001 bottles out - and John brought a 3rd - unplanned. Enjoyed Haut Bergey, Aida and John brought Hartwell Stags Leap. Of the 3 bottles, for me the Aida was wine of the night. Hartwell was nice - and perhaps would have shown beter if it had been open a while longer. Both the Bergey and the Aida had a 1 hour head start on the Hartwell.

Smooth was the word used by most our group to describe this wine along with chocolate and blackberry. Greenblanket has enjoyed this wine in the past, and maybe it was the comparison to two other very good cab based wines, but he feared it was losing some of it's lift and definition.

Perfect balance, just the right amount of tanin and acid, great fruit, very deep lingering taste, a little chewy but very impressive. I opened and tasted it with no breathing time and was very pleased and a bit surprised at how nice it was. This is a great, outstanding wine.

Kavana Wine Tasting - California Cabernet (Seattle, WA): Cherry cough syrup on the nose with some char. Big and ripe, a pretty plush wine that is texturally appealing. Sort of like chocolate covered cherries with some cherry liqueur. This falls apart on the finish though, showed overextraction and off-putting bitterness.

Very dark ruby with a tinge of purple. Delicious aromas of berries and currants. Medium body, with more dark fruit, currant followed by some mysterious spicy berry flavors than I couldn’t identify that kept me coming back for another taste. Well balanced tannins with a very gentle touch of wood. Very soft and rich, without being “jammy.” Long complex finish. Really very nice.

Beautiful smooth rich dark fruit and tobacco with no signs of evolution other than the almost complete integration of 22 months of new french oak.
