My first bottle of this cuvee and I wish I had purchased more! Opened but not decanted for over 45 minutes before pouring, as part of a Syrah night with my wine group at a NYC Steakhouse. Smokey, with notes of pepper, medium+ body, long finish. A group favorite.

This Cornas needed at least an hour to open up in a big decanter. The bouquet is quite rich and deceived me into believing this wine would rather be a Châteauneuf du Pape than a Cornas. Maybe the darker fruit aromas of blackberries and some plums lead to this conclusion. The tannins are still quite challenging and require at least 5 more years to fully mature. Will be interesting to follow.

Two Rhônes Diverged in a Wood.... ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Double(ish) blind in Northern Rhône flight. Rich and very dense. Very fresh throughout, clearly on the young-ish side for this flight. So much depth here with meaty character, made me think this 2011/ 2012 Hermitage. Third time I've had wonderful 2106, and all three have been consistent. My 5th fav (of 10) in the flight, group's #2.

A slightly lifted violet accented plum nose leads to a palate which adds blackberry and trails off towards olive and hints of smoked meat on the well structured finish.
This bottle presented a bit darker fruited than my last encounter.

Primary red and blue fruit, and it’s all primary fruit right now. Great balance of acidity, structure, with a lovely texture on the palate, but sit on these for a while.

SQN & BBQ (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Small glass, brief note from memory. Bright black berry aromas and flavors with Asian five spice and olive tapenade at the very end. Very balanced and elegant with very good+ weight, in a very traditional style I truly enjoyed. Great now, upside from here.
Warm nights, big wines (park ridge country club, park ridge, IL): Nose: The nose is pungent with a bit of a meatiness as well as tones of black cherries, black raspberries, licorice, black fruits, white pepper, garrigue, leather, and tobacco notes. There is excellent depth with a style that is clearly Northern Rhone.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is very youthful with deep tones of black cherries, black raspberries, licorice, white pepper, garrigue, leather, and tobacco.
Overall: This was fairly identifiable as Northern Rhone when blind. This is excellent and while it's on the young side, it is starting off in a really strong place.

Tasted in a vertical with some Robert Michel as well. Tight upon opening, it got better after 2-3h decant. Much more approachable than I expected, this wine was lifted, with red fruits, vibrant acidity and softer tannins than I would expect from Geynale. Showing much more « domesticated » and vibrant than previous vintages, is this just another example of what I like in 2016, be it in Bordeaux or Burgundy?

Geynale study (Chicago, IL): Is Paris getting better every year? Yes, I think he is. Although the only bottle of the 2015 I've tasted so far was corked, I find myself comparing this to my conception of the previous vintage, which is an inky black, fruit-rich and very broad-shouldered one. This wine, however, is far on the opposite side of the spectrum of that. It's a very red-fruit-and-acid-driven syrah, with just a mild hint of spice. The palate initially seemed to be quite tight and unyielding, but a few hours in a decanter loosened up the wine a lot, both on the nose and on the palate. Lots of acid, this is one for the long haul, but more than enjoyable now with a decant.
The 2016 Vincent Paris Cornas is a gorgeous deep, dark purple color. The brooding nose features intoxicating aromas of grilled meat, red fruits, plums, and lavender. All characteristics I love to find in Northern Rhone Syrahs. Chewy tannins support a structure that should will allow the wine to age for another decade. Try to resist popping this (it is going to be really hard!), but if you must, give it an all-day decant.

Third sample from the same bottle on 2020-03-08. Same wine and the same impressions but more prominent tannin than last tries. Would give this at least 10y years in the bottle if not more. No noticeable degradation of the bottle from having tapped it 3 times now, first time over a year ago.
Coravin sample. Dark, violets, peppery, spieces, concentrated blackberry aromas. High acidity, fine grained tannin and spicey fruit to go with it. The aromas indicate a sweet denser wine than the what the mouth tells you. Fantastic balance and finish. Drinks well now but this will be great with another ~10 years of cellaring. 94-95p Second sample 190608. Same description but lower marks, perhaps because I tried it with tomato based Bolognese which didn’t work at all. Save 10 years. 93-94p.

Quite tasty medium dark fruit, medium body, fine tannins, bit of spice; later as it opens further, the nose shows some jammy fruit, with somewhat riper sweet fruit on the palate, tannins become somewhat coarse. I keep hoping this producer will rise to the level i hope for given the vineyard source, but while quite a nice wine, it fails to distinguish itself and make it into the top tier of Cornas for me.
Très beau vin, bel équilibre entre la puissance d'un Cornas et une belle acidité. Tres gourmand, un léger côté sucré pas déplaisant actuellement qui disparaîtra avec le temps, mais déjà beaucoup de plaisir gourmand.

Pungent Syrah nose. Old vine sap with beautiful framing acidity. A lot of everything here- excited to see where it goes.

Delicious, great typicity, length, minerality, fruit concentration, don’t feel bad about drinking one early but they should improve with age
