  • A year since my last bottle. The notes are pretty much the same. The bottle had not developed much during the past 12 months.

Ruby red with pink rim. Fresh redcurrant, sour cherry, raspberry, strawberry, animal sweat, farmyard, flowers and herbs. Medium-bodied, medium-high acidity, medium-high tannin, velvety texture and well balanced. Long finish.

  • Good bottle and very Marsannay and 2016. Rocky and earthy with hints of red fruits. Drinking young but well. A good bottle of Burg for sure.

  • The dry and musty cork which split in two during extraction had me fearing the worst, but I was pleasantly surprised at finding a seemingly sound wine.

Dark berries and a touch of barnyard with whisker of shoe polish on the nose lead leads to a slightly hard palate of bruised macerated cherries, beef roast drippings, and a touch of tree bark which lends some bitterness to the finish.

Perhaps this wine isn’t perfectly sound.

Edit: by the end of our evening, the bitterness faded and the wine became very pleasant.

  • Pink/purplish rim, ruby red center. Nose was farmyard with mix of violets and red berries. Palate was fresh redcurrant and animal sweat with a tinge of floral honey. Medium-high acidity, very good structure and long astringent finish.
