Pronounced Cabarnet Franc aromas, in addition to some mushroom and blackcurrant. Surprisingly youthful, with good fruit. The next day dreg had survived very well in the bottle.

What an emotion! The magnum was opened and the wine was alive... Left it not more than a half hour opened. 5 of us drank it and every time we had another glass there was another layer, the wine evolved. First very vibrant, colourful then a bit more closed, with a bit of mushroom scent/carbon, then it was in full bloom, very good. Only old wines in large containers (e.g. Magnum) can deliver this. We loved it!

Dinner with Jay Hack (Les clos, San Francisco): Nose is a bit more limited than the 1982; palate is medium bodied, fruit has faded, structure is approachable and slightly drying, fading red fruit; medium finish. Fading, drink up now. 86-88

Med garnet, breathed half an hour, matured merlot, fruit largely given way to 2and aroma, but was bit tired. Faint floral note from mid palate, have to drink quick and obviously passed its peak. Depends whether one enjoy matured merlot.

In a perfect place right now. On opening the fruit was very apparent, and the tannins still showing the 86 pedigree by giving a tongue-lashing at the end. After 45 minutes or so the tannins softened out and allowed the fruit to take center stage, finishing long and smooth. This held well over two hours, and would have gone longer had we not attacked with vigor. Seems at peak now, though the tannins suggest it would last longer, the chance remains that the fruit will recede as time passes. Well done.

This was purchased around 1990 and cellared well since then. The fill on this was excellent but the cork a bit problematic. Decanted, modest sediment. Medium ruby red, minimal browning on the edge. Rather closed on the nose initially; will wait and see how it develops. Over the next hour opened nicely, revealing a weedy and lead pencil nose with classic restrained Bordeaux fruit. On the palate this has softened considerably and continues to improve; much better than the other notes on this here. This clearly doesn't have the fleshiness of the 82, but is in no danger of falling off a cliff.

bought in 1989 and stored at precise conditions since. Cork in good condition, about 1/2 soaked. Nose somewhat weak, not much left! Not a bad tasting experience at all. Decent fruit up front, very weak finish. Soft tannins. Drink up!

Deep red with some bricking on the edge, Cedar. Barnyard (that blew off), followed by a dairy/cheese smell. This is mature with only a small amount of currant on the pallet.

Tasting of four Chateau La Dominique blind, second place. Brilliant red color in the glass. Nose of dark red cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, lovely aged taste of dark cherry fruit, lovely structure, very dusty, dry nutty medium finish with very soft tannins present.

With MPL and BLR at Singer & Foy survey of '86 Bordeaux. Good ruby color. Nose has fruit, but slightly hollow, even a tad green. On the palate, somewhat coarse, slightly dense. Quite tannic. A hard wine that needs time, but it's a gamble because the fruit may not last that long. 5-8-12-5: 80/100.

Fill was IN. Still very attractive nose. Palate is voluptuous and has loads and loads of tannins (1986...). Long finish.
