Popped & poured, consumed over a period of three evenings. Good red and dark fruit, red cherry, black currant, blueberry, blackberry, light vegetal notes, light bell pepper, earth, light chocolate, some cedar, graphite, and spices, with good acidity, ripe, round tannin, and very good length. On day one, popped & poured there is a huge hole where the mid-palate should be, before the wine re-emerges with a long, fruity finish. On day two, the wine is juicy, driven by graphite and sour blue fruit, if still with the same huge hole in the middle. On day three, however, the wine has fleshed out a little in the middle, but the tannin and a light astringency starts to show on the finish. The wine has good concentration, and very good complexity, but only average structure, and a weak mid-palate. A vintage that drinks well early and should be consumed over the medium term. 90(-)

Thoroughly enjoyable, i was surprised… worried it may be in early shut down, but no, quite open, clearly a lesser vintage in terms of intensity / lacks plushness compared to 2018 and structure compared to 2017 but makes up for it with a very attractive accessible freshness that we really enjoyed. Moderately complex across the red and black fruit spectrum, good length and firm but ripe tannins.

Had reasonably high expectations for this, based on the producer and the same vintage Giscours. This wine proved disappointing on both accounts. While technically sound, it offers no more than modest substance and is drowned in charred oak elements, which masks terroir. Polished, smooth, and easy drinking are the best descriptors that I can offer, no bell ringers for a Second Growth.
Best enjoyed over the next several years. Awful QPR. 90-91.

Lovely fiery and almost delicate touch on the aromas with perfumed overtone of dark raspberry fruit, cassis, wet ground, graphite and leather. Fresh and really juicy wine with a great mouthfeel. Delicate! Pretty fruit of red berries with dark fruit peel, graphite and wonderful spice tones. Nice acidity and tannin structure. Properly balanced. Lacks some complexity, but takes it back in god-given fruit. Great Brane-Cantenac!

2017 UGC Des Bordeaux, San Francisco, nose of sweet and sour fruit, akin to a Red Burgundy, medium body, lovely fruit, rich fruit, tasty, medium amount of soft tannins which is usual for this Chateau, medium/big finish, needs 4 years in the cellar to mature.

Perfumed fruit on the nose, notes of spices, smoke, bell pepper, herbs. On the palate fresh and bright with grippy tannins, minerality, good fruit and length. A little less generous than most 2017s at this tasting. 90-91+

Joanne Bordeaux Trip 2018 (Bordeaux): The nose was restrained, showing dark fruits, minerals, and woodsy tones. On the palate, I found a soft, juicy persona with notes of plum, and raspberry providing a very textural experience. The finish was medium long, zesty and spicy, with saturating dark red fruits, and light tannin.

Offering an intoxicating mélange of floral, earthy and spicy scents along with cedar, tobacco and black raspberry notes, it’s very apparent something brilliant is about to happen. In the glass, you’ll find elegance and refinement. The fruits are on the red side but the tannins are so delicate, the juice so plentiful, that attention is elsewhere. From a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13% alcohol with a pH of 3.76. It represents 60% of the harvest. The higher than usual percentage of the Grand Vin is due to the frost, which hit the parts of the vineyard customarily reserved for the second wine. The harvest took place from September 14 to October 10.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Beurs van Berlage / Eden Hotel): Trade tasting, brief note. Old school but with finesse, flowers and earth, flowing but grippy and youthful, cool minerality, slightly resinous oak, very good length with a touch of liquorous cherries. Excellent, needs time.
