  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Still a blueish tinged garnet. Plums on the nose, black pepper, hint of malt. Seems cool-climate, but very ripe. The palate is medium-bodied, with low dusty tannins and medium acidity. It's gently savoury in character, tasting as the nose promised, but always with a sweet fruit twist, and has an even, gentle palate, finishing about medium length. Perhaps a touch on the simple side, but still pretty nice.

  • Opened early. Very deep colour. Some fragrance with brambly fruit and some spice on the nose. Good fruit on the palate; dry but rather austere with forward, unbalanced acidity at this stage, in my view. It is perhaps too early to find this at its best but I expected more, given the reputation of this wine and its very high price in UK.

  • Seriously good. Intense nose, full bodied, black fruits, pepper and great length. Develops well over a few hours. Great now and will probably improve over the next couple of years, but why wait.

  • Bought £22.00 online Exel Wines, Perth UK March 2020

More inky/heavy/richer than I expected for a Hawke's Bay Syrah, more ''old fashioned Australian'' I suppose. Intense flavours here, opened way too young, I'll cellar until at least 2023. Previous vintages of this have had more white pepper, being lighter/more elegant; there's enough acid here but there's shed loads of fruit too, super-ripe - is there even a hint of it being jammy?? Balanced in the sense that some gentle tannins up against all that fruit. Some length, not especially dry, a pleasent finish. Medium+ body.

VFM?.....Hmmm, not especially a bargain, £22.00 is about right.

  • Lacking body...just never makes it out of the gate. Some tannins that mill about but basically nothing to see here. No idea why others have rated this wine so highly.

  • P&p. Leathery dark-red fruit and scrubby/Bay Laurel sorts of aromas, with some earthy and savory depth and a general sense of seriousness. Fairly concentrated, but lifted by good acidity. Firm structure, with lingering grippy tannins, yet reasonably open and approachable. Enjoyable and a good value (paid 32 NZD). Comes across as young; seems like drink or hold.
