With family, enjoying take-out from China Village in Albany. PnP. (opened along side a 2003 Donnhoff Spatlese.) Straw gold in color. Lemon zest and apples on the nose. In tje mouth I get honeydew melon, citrus with some minerlity (slate ?) in the background. Nicely balanced with good acidity, a measure of sweetness and that purity I look for in Donnhoff's Rieslings. This most likely has many years to gp.

Nose: white flower, limestone, soft lemon, stone fruit, salt
Palate: ripe stone fruit to lemon to strong salinity with a soft background of minerality; high saline finish with minerality, salt fades to soft minerals and lemon, medium length finish; medium sweetness; medium+ acidity; medium+ body; a fairly silky oily texture (very nice)
Overall thoughts: Great wine with very nice layered flavors, especially fruit and salinity; very nice silky smooth, oily mouthfeel; could probably benefit from a bit more acidity, but it's still nicely balanced. The great mouthfeel elevated this wine even though it could use a bit more acid

AP 14 18. Definitely a bolder iteration of the Kirschheck this year, but a welcome return to the redder berry profile that the ‘Cherry Hedge’ is known for. More fruity and concentrated than this year’s Hermannshöhle, which excelled from its almost Mosel-like lightness. Perhaps as Dönnhoff doesn’t produce an Auslese from this vineyard, the riper profile of 2017 was more fully reflected. Also somewhat lower acidity than Dönnhoff usually produces, but it’s just so god damn delicious one can forgive such a deviation from form. Big, broad, and jubilant. Unsure how this will age but it’s delicious as hell right now!

Dinner w/Cornelius Donnhoff (Manahatta): Reminds me of a very ripe white peach. It's still got all of the minerals and crispness. Touch again of the slate notes. Well done.

Aroma: honeyed citrus with nutty notes. A touch of aromatic petrol. Palate: rich, slightly sweet tropical fruit flavors with nutty notes. Some mineral elements. Good structure and complexity.

Loved it. Had with Marina Meats crab cakes and scallops. Off dry, mineral, low alcohol, citrus. Will only get better with more bottle age.

Tiny tasting pour. Still, beautiful wine. Very balanced sugar/acid. Like drinking a bouquet of flowers.
