NOSE: Classic Alsatian GW nose with rose petals, lychees and papaya with addition of some stone minerality. (88-89p) TASTE: Lovely, clean fruitiness. Obvious ripe, warm vintage fruit, quite rich and off dry mouthfeel. Drier on the mid palate with the typical slight bitter touch (think peach stone) arriving at the exit, into the medium long aftertaste. And then there’s the cleanliness or purity of fruit, this hallmark of Hugel winemaking even in warm vintages and at basic quality levels. Hugel’s basic wines consistently outperform some of the Grand Crus from lesser producers and typically offer the best QPR of any Alsace wines. This wine, their basic GW is yet an example of that. (87p) OVERALL: Drinks nicely now. Will easily last until 2025 but expect it to gradually loose freshness. So with this wine’s ripe fruit in mind I would drink it by 2021 or 2022. It kept and improved (1-2 points?) after being kept cold for several days after opening. TOTAL SCORE 88 points.

A private wine dinner: NOSE: Lovely. Fruity, lychees, white pears. TASTE: Clean GW fruitiness. OVERALL: Nice, mature GW, still full of vitality. 88-89 points.

Classic Gewürstraminer aromas with litchie and exotic spices. Also some alcohol notes. Full bodied, juicy and forward. Lacks structure and elegance, which I guess is mostly due to the warm vintage.

Medium lemon in the glass, pronounced aromas and flavors, nose of pear, melon, palate is dry with ripe and preserved fruits, canned pear, lychee, apple, stone fruit, note of honeydew, agave nectar, acidity is high but masked by the fruit, medium+ body, long finish a bit hot. Very nice.

Delicious Gewurztraminer. Huge aromatic profile. Apparently more than 300 different aromatic components. As a contrast Chanel No 5 has 50. Which is good.

Perfectly fine. Not special, no layers or nuance. Do not drink except with food.

Tydelig frukt, lichi.
Har fått noen år i flaske, vet ikke om det gjør den godt. Kunne hatt mer syre for å matche dagens indisk.
