The FG stands for Fabulously Great, or words to that effect. The fruit is from a vineyard adjacent to The Laird vineyard, next to Marananga church. It is rich and dense, packed with black fruits and smoked meats. There’s some aniseed and the finish is chewy and loaded with spice. Despite its size and power, it remains light on its feet.

GT Wine Tope Tasting Barossa Shiraz (8 Danks street, Sydney): Biscuit, slight toast, sweet spice, over blackberry and a slight saline note. Juicy and a little jubey with plenty of spice married to the black fruit. Tannins are gritty but quite controlled or, even, muted. Hmm.
