I really liked this wine. It had nice structure, good complexity, but still smooth and very drinkable. Much better than the 2011 Roulot Meursault which might have been past it’s peak. Thanks to John for bringing it!

Off the list at Kaia-Kaipe. Pop-n-pour and this is firing on all cylinders. Just a kiss of reduction is so nicely melded to the rich orchard fruit. Nicely layered with citrus and mineral. Drinking beautifully at this early stage.

Lafon's 2017 Charmes is focused and precise with intense and layered spice-wrapped orchard fruit, acacia blossom, and a bit of extant matchstick reduction. Dense fruit on the palate, good acidity, long finish. This is very good indeed and even better than my bottle two years ago.

2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Initially, slightly coiled nose displaying concentrated rich yellow fruit with a hint of white, lemon curd, apple, honey, white flowers, a hint of vanilla, sweet spices and strong crushed rocks. Exceptional concentration, dense and rich yellow citrus fruit, intense, precise and focused, bright acidity, strong mineral and a long dense yellow fruit driven finish with honey and strong mineral at the end. With about an hour of air, it becomes more expressive, lighter with more white fruit including pear. I highly recommend a couple hours of decanting at this stage. This is a very precise and dense Meursault.

A golden yellow hue. Very pure. On the nose, this was quite open but still primary. Citrus, white fruit, an oily character, with some notes of hazelnut. The palate has an amazing sense of intensity and weight, but without heaviness. This is a big wine and I think recent vintages have gained tension without losing the intensity that I associate with this climat from Lafon and this vintage has that in spades. White fruit and ripe citrus character with a mineral undertone and great acidity. This is still very young and it needs age. A long, long finish with great balance. Delicious but this is still in its infancy.

Crisp, tense, thrilling - electric as was the recent bottle of Goutte d'Or. Gorgeous fruit and chalky mineral. An absolutely killer finish. Grand cru power here.
Served blind, this was picked as the unanimous favorite over '12 PYCM Batard, and two vintages of Vogue Bourgogne Blanc.

Lafon's 2017 Charmes is a clear step up from the Gouttes d'Or and is already a fairly complete wine with spice-wrapped orchard fruit and acacia. Excellent density on the palate with a good framing of acid, offering excellent persistence. Very good.

Casual BBQ Wines: Orange peel, toasty oak, peach and pear on the nose. Powerful and imposing palate, plenty of oak here as well. Really needs time to show some charm.

I’ve been cooling on the opening of 17’s lately, though mostly reds, for fear they may be shutting down. Luckily this Lafon was open and giving from the get go. While the wine has some good backbone to it, beautiful and exquisite are words that come to mind in describing it succinctly. I found white peach, lemon pie, honey suckle, with a floral lift on the nose. Pure, crystalline fruit, fresh and lively acidity in the mouth. Medium weight, and flavor impressions consistent with the nose. It’s well balanced but slightly in favor of the fruit, its acidity keeps things honest though never cuts too deep. There’s mild to moderate oak spice and tannin that’s well judged and adds complexity, finishing with a graceful, mineral and spice laden closing kick. Saved a bit for a couple days later and the good, underlying mineral and savory effects really shined through. Giving real nice clarity and reinforcing the notion that while this isn’t one of the most powerful Meursault 1ers it’s very pretty and luxurious all the same.

Young and disjointed, boasts undeniable (unnatural?) density in the mouth. I liked this vintage better than the 2016 tasted side by side. 94+ potential.

Lovely reduction. Great place now. Iodine, salty, fresh, then charmes richness.

Beautiful clean fruit, put in some weight over the night, but retained line and length without oak interference. Great now why wait
