I basically agree with the following review by Wine Spectator, but I’m backing off of their score a bit. I’d say 90 or 91. Hard to believe this is a $20 wine. Per WS: score 93 Rich and supple, laced with black currant, black cherry, violet and earth notes. Vibrant, firming up as the fruit-stained aftertaste lingers. Best from 2020 through 2033. 6,000 cases made, 300 cases imported. Bruce Sanderson Issue Date: Oct 31, 2018 Release Price: $20/750mL

Floral, with violet taking the lead, licorice, graphite, black currant. Excellent fruit (rich cherry) intensity, with particularly fine tannins providing support. Fresh finish. A modest label, but a true fine wine, better suited for ageing than the 2015 Monsanto Riserva. Will reach its prime in a couple of years and drink well for another 10 years. Drink 2025 - 2033. 91+ points.

Medium red color, nose of bright red fruit that jumped from the glass when pouring two glasses, a slight earthiness that I typically associate with Chianti, but mostly bright red fruit on the palate. Great with pasta and after some air, quite enjoyable by itself. A good wine.

Very impressive wine at such a low price point. It poured to a rich ruby red color, after a 1 hour decant it had a nice expression of red fruit aromas. Tastes of cherry were immediately apparent, with undertones of raspberry, strawberry and other red fruits. I sensed a slight touch of oak. Med tannins. This is a very good drinking wine, highly recommend trying it.

Medium- deep garnet in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of herbs & earthy/dusty notes, tea, spices, minerals/loam & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, strawberries & cranberries with herbs, minerals, spices & a slight touch of oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but definitely has the potential for further development with additional aging.

Association (Viticoltori di) San Donato in Poggio (Castello della Paneretta, località Monsanto II, Barberino val d'Elsa, FI): Sadly, there's just not enough of this wine produced so that's it's able to be imported into the USA. However, if you're over here, and have the chance to visit, or find some in a restaurant or enoteca, you're in for a nice wine. Clean, correct, fresh, and pure (as expected), this really speaks to the grape and place. The complexity and structure were sound, but this wowed me less than the very impressive 2014 Monsanto Gran Selezione (strong buy!!) I tasted following this. Highly traditional, as expected. For my tastes, drink 2020-2027. recommended

Plums, pipe tobacco, violets, and loads of acid in the supple tannins. Really nice wine.

Great taste! Goes well with red meat but possibly better with red sauce on pasta or pizza.

Black olives, red cherries, bell peppers, hot pepper flakes, and orange zest. Loads of heat and acid on the finish. Perfect match for tomatoes.

Fin frukt litt alkohol stikk. Brent tre og bildekk trekker litt ned.

Intens duft. Plommer og fat. Litt kirsebær?
God frisk syre. God konsentrasjon, med smak av fersk frukt. Lette tanniner i en utgang med fin lengde.
Bra QPR. Funker bra til diverse pizza.
