Last tasted some 4 years ago, and it is now opening up but is still improving. A dark colour, and a fragrant, perfumed nose; the palate is rich and dense, with dark fruit flavours and a dryish finish. Perhaps try again in a couple of years.

Beautiful fresh autumn berries, soft tannins, and a mulchy woody quality to it. I didn't decant which I think was the right option for while it tasted immensely youthful and delicious at first, it did begin to change rapidly in the glass tasting more and more mature. First couple of sips, everyone was amazed that it was nearly 20 years old, but after 20 minutes or so it was so different. Gorgeous perfectly mature wine though I don't think there's any hurry to drink it.

Another bottle of this courtesy of my father. Fabulously rich nose: autumn fruit - very fresh - with tobacco, cinnamon, cloves and truffle. The longer it's open, the more the truffle note comes out. Super smooth on the palate, just glorious to swill this one around the mouth, full body but tannins fully resolved and that fruit still fresh as a daisy. Long finish. This is how you hope mature Burgundy is going to taste. Just glorious. So glad he still has a few bottles of this left in storage.

Strongly recommend a 2hr decant at this point. Wonderful nose. Asian spice, tea...mid palate for 1st hr relatively dumb...Kept improving over with time and inevitably was lgbg (last glass best glass).

50th Birthday Celebration...COVID Delayed (Northbrook, IL): Served double blind, I thought Chambolle 1er, with some Gevrey meaty notes. Very 2005 structure - lots of tannins and acidity - and good power, even if not quite Geand Cru density to me. Better to cellar longer for more balance.

Bright red colour with very faded rim. Decanted this a couple of hours before serving. A small amount of very fine sediment. Gorgeous nose, tobacco, forest floor, autumn fruits, perfumed. Soft on the palate, stewed fruit, still a little tannic bite and a nice bracing refreshing acidity, baking spices with that tobacco coming through again. Fading just a little on palate with time in the glass but pretty sensational all round. That perfume persists.

This has quite a deep colour for a Burgundy. The wine is now opening out, with quite forward raspberry/cherry fruit, and some savoury notes developing. Well structured so should keep well. Very good.

Dark color, nose is deep and very much on a black fruit profile aromatic profile. Very little evolution. Medium bodied in the mouth, good acidity and great fruit quality, tannins are integrated and give some (but not too much) volume. Finishes energetically by a clam with a slight astringent touch towards the end, so can most probably age gracefully. Good length.

Still young. Tasted next to 02 Faiveley which had a much better and more complex nose. This has yet to develop but was good. Nice flavors, rich, deep purple color. 92 tonight

A bright colour, quite youthful with just a touch of brown; a fragrant, perfumed nose with a hint of violets; ripe, fresh, raspberry and cherry fruit on the palate, with a soft, velvety texture; quite rich and with good length. Still a little tannin on the finish, but this is drinking well now.

Unfortunately, this was slightly corked, so no mark. In the background was a light to medium wine which was probably just about ready to drink. I will have to try another soon so that I can judge it properly

Tasted blind. Intense dark ruby color. Nose of mixed fruit, earth and stone. The acid in this is bright and lively, elevating the fruit to an concentration not normally found.in a burg. This wine has years to go and will only develope more power and complexity. Medium long finish. I wish there was more of this to be had.

Deep ruby color, dark red fruit with slight gaminess and earthiness, also slightly chalky at 1st. Medium plus palate that is surprisingly open for business for a 05, ripe but slightly low on acidity, starting to drink well.

Similar notes to last bottle - great nose and lots of flavor in this wine. Seems to be maybe slightly better - will continue to age the rest and see if this continues to evolve. Very nice Burg.

1/05/09: Dark ruby color. The aromas are an enticing blend of cherry, plum, ginger, spice, anise and floral notes. The tastes are cherry and other dark red berry fruit , earth.and stone. This is a balanced but not hugely complex, medium bodied wine with enough acidity and tannin to keep it interesting. The finish is neither long or compelling with some mineral, earth and tannin. All in all nice, but I expected more. Certainly no great value.

Deep ruby colour, elegant nose. Improved over the evening with air. Cherry and red berry fruit, balanced, good acids, with some weight. Next day did not show better. Acidity was to the fore.

Winestreet Does 2005 Nicholas Potel (Kozlak's, North Oaks, MN): Light barnyard/funk on the nose. Dark cherries and earth. Quite ripe, but less rich and complex than the Clos de la Roche, tasted side-by-side (see TN). Tea, raspberries, and creme de cassis. The finish thins out a bit. Perhaps a bit closed.
