Solid Cabernet. Will be better in 5-10 years. Tastes of South Australia and generic penfolds. Having said that it’s a pretty good wine, glad I have one more. 93-94++

Dark ruby hue. Aromas of bell pepper, black cherry, blackcurrant, licorice, oak, and tobacco. Full-bodied, with full tannins and high acidity. Lengthy finish.

As expected - these higher end Penfolds bottling are always good and mostly deliver what you'd imagine from a big Australian cab. Way too young, could really use 5 years to calm down, and then some. Notes of cherries, spice and everything nice. Good, chewy wine with nice balancing acidity.

Tasted at The Wine Society's Australian tasting, Reading, UK. I liked this wine, but I only gave it 87 because it's far too young. I think it needs another 7-10 years in bottle. Dark ruby, tending towards black colour. Deep blackcurrants, damson and cassis. Good, but will surely get better with age.

Penfolds tasting w/Kevin Zraly (Sherry Lehman): One of the pleasant surprises of the tasting for me. I haven't had much of this wine, but I will say I enjoyed it and at the price point it's very compelling (more the general price point than the SL one presented). The winemakers had written cherry bon bon in their notes and that's 100% here. Also some more spicy notes. There's a nice juiciness to this wine without being over done. And a great acidity that creates the balance. A decent tannin. It's very young and needs a lot more time, but there's great stuffing here. Could see older vintages of this being really interesting. Blend of American and French oak.

Textbook cabernet sauvignon, rewarding multi-region, multi-vineyard blending, supported by sensitive use of French and American oak. A dry winter and warm summer saw early harvest of an evenly-ripened and desirably flavoured crop. Colour deep red purple edges , dense colour 15/15 Aromas aren’t shy but rather punchy with a subtle floor earthiness, sugar pastille wafts and a summer pudding to follow. Fruit to the fore at this early stage 28/30 Palate intense and rich cassis red cabernet fruits enhanced by complex cut tobacco and darkened spices welcome ripe and friendly tannins. Great balance and complexity 42/44 Overall bargain buy of the current 2018 release very impressive but the 707 is another step up in quality 9/11

Clear, dark ruby, heavy tearing with some staining. Med+ intensity, ripe/jammy black cherry, blackbery, blueberry, plum, lavender, moderate new oak. Med body, med+ acidity, med+ tannin, high alcohol. A bit alcoholic, med complexity, med+ finish. This is a big wine and needs time for the grippy tannins to integrate (or at least a few hours in the decanter). Poured from the bottle, not my cup of tea - tastes overextracted and hot.

Great balanced wine. Good fruit with softer tannins.
Still with life.

Decanted an hour. Cinnamon, black currant, cigar humidor, bay leaf, black cherry, brown sugar.
Paired with prime rib and was awesome. This still has so much life ahead of it.

The so called "baby version" of Bin 707. 12 months in French (25% new) & American (9% new) oak.
Decanted 2h. Cassis, black olive, bay leaf, black fruits, raisin, leaves in Fall, slight smoke, black tea, freshly pulled espresso.
Unsurprisingly paired great with a tomahawk steak, asparagus & potatoes.

This bottle showed a little more poorly than the last, a little too hot and out of balance.
