Juicy. 5-year old Bariques doesn’t leave very much oaky characteristics. I would have guessed stainless steel. Smokey finish. Not sophisticated. Good, but side by side with Barboursville, it was the lesser wine. Needs lighter food than steak. Tart plum and raspberry fruit with licorice and thyme along with some pepper.

PnP. ABV 12.5%. £94/6 IB. Muted nose, maybe some dark soils notes but just barely. Dark garnet in color, hardly showing any age or development. For an entry level, this is rather dense with excellent length, lively acidity, fine tannins. Absolutely no hint of alcohol with barely noticeable oaks lingering at backend. Velvety and silky, impressive on the palate, much much better than the nose. Still few years away from ready but approachable now. Great QPR for an entry level Loire.

Vivid color and intense aromatics. Raspberries, wild roses, thyme, and something peppery on the nose. Medium-light extraction with a supple, elegant mouthfeel. The midpalate is a bit thin but shows a solid mineral spine and a lot of leafy, herbal flavors. The finish is long and a bit tart, and puts some otherwise ignorable raspy tannins on display. Slightly austere, but very vivid and distinctive. Listed alcohol of 12.5%.

Un beau Chinon à point. Plus vertébrale sur ce millésime, mais tout de même bien approchable, à bien accompagné les burgers!

Similar to previous note a few months ago, another impressive bottle of entry level Cab Franc from Loire. Less than £16/b IB, what a bargain!

Vin fluide et de belle aloi. Des notes de fruits purs. Sur le fruit de la canneberge et la cerise. Gouleyant et une bonne longueur. 90 sur 100.
