lovely perfumed nose with cherry almost a plum note, spice, and moss. Midweighted, graceful, and surprisingly spice driven. The richness of the vintage is handled beautifully here. It's ripe and broad, yet stony, detailed, and light on its feet with a nice savory underpinning to the fruit and floral perfume notes. Outstanding. Finishes a bit coarse for Volnay, but is quite long and quite good. Early peak. 93

Volnay, Pommard & CdB 1er Cru (Chicago): Double blind in what turned out to be a fantastic 02 d'Angerville pair. Gorgeous and enticing nose of candied red cherry, spice, minty herbs and florals. The palate is richly fruited with still-silky tannins providing balance. Just simply delicious and complex red fruit that is in peak form. Long, delineated finish that is filled-with telltale Caillerets minerality and stoniness.

Volnay/ Pommard (Mostly) Blind Tasting (Northside of Chicago): Double blind alongside '02 Champans. Red and black cherry from beginning to end with spice, floral and earthy charm in wonderful proportion. Lush and clearly rich without being too ripe, this is a perfect expression of the 2002 vintage. Good+ weight, very good length and finesse. Great now, with even further possible upside. My 2nd favorite wine tonight, tied for group's favorite.

Had this wine over 2 evenings spread over 4 days (private preserve). Much more interesting on the first day. Open red fruit that after an hr or so decant really felt like lingering tannins melted away and worked very well with Thanksgiving leftovers. 2nd round was fine but a bit flat and flabby...still plenty good for my pallet.

Excellent. Perfect spot--classic '02 fruit, strawberries, vibrant, minerality, balance. Silky texture. Strong finish. Harmonius wine with depth. Needs 30 min of air to show self. Perfection with morels and poached egg. Room to develop and good bottles should do well over next 5 years.

Dinner at Schwa (Schwa): Strong family resemblance to it's next door neighbor the Campans. This one has just a bit more of everything going on - earth, mineral, structure. Definitely a year or two longer to get to the optimal drinking window. 93-94 pts.

This wine was wide open upon opening with a very aromatic nose of cherry and red fruits...After 3-5 hours in the decanter, the palate started to open...overall, a well balanced wine that still needs some time to develop on the palate, but the wine is enjoyable today w/decanting...medium acidity, med- tannin, little or no astringency, light bodied and delicate, elegant, light...

Bistro K: Lite leather, subtle hints of berry-blk; med. bod, elegant, long fin.; needs to open in my opinion; good a’s. Give it 2-3 yrs.
