  • Let sit for ~6 hours after pop. Beautiful strawberry on the nose and in the mouth, diving deep into a earthy, slightly herbaceous core with slight hints of chocolate and mint, then pulls back up with a nice pop of citrus acidity on the finish. Wow. Stunning. Mea culpa, I was totally wrong about how good this had the potential to get.

  • Med translucent burgundy in the glass. Tasted in Grassl Cru after 4 hours in the decanter over a 2 day period. I get tons of strawberry on the nose with hints of orange peel and mushroom. Upon PNP, the wine was light in weight with nice Strawberry and cherry notes with that orange peel in the mix. Great bracing acidity through with really nice fine tannins playing with the acid on the finish. After 2 days in the decanter, it picked up weight and heft in the palate—nice notes of tobacco and cigar box along with the fruit on the nose. The palate is similar but with more heft. Getting more earth and even a hint of coffee on the med finish. Tastes a bit lighter than its indicated 13.8% ABV. Hard to believe this is $20 Pinot Noir.

  • Crunchy red fruit up front and into the earthy core, leading towards a decently bright finish. Easy. This one is pretty consistent vintage-to-vintage, which isn't as fun or as typically Willamette Valley, but also seems appropriate for the price point.

  • Deep color in the glass suggesting a full-bodied wine. Nose shows some earthy notes, oak, and red fruit. Palate corresponds with appearance and nose - a juicy, rich Pinot that is well balanced, and a fantastic QPR at $15.75/bottle. Easy enjoyable drinking and crowd pleasing too.

  • Tasted lovely today. Love this wine but the 2017 is even better. see my previous notes on both vintages. Checks all the boxes for me. My QPR Favorite.

  • Nose smells of dark bing cherries and maybe a bit of orange peel. Medium body and tart cherry and earth in the mouth. Medium acidity and it gets tart then tannins give a medium grip through a short finish. A nice wine bit I’m curious to see it on Day 2.

  • Nose of baking spice and tart red fruit; oak in the background. Palate is lively medium body. Juicy strawbery and red cherries. Tannins are smooth but a bit dusty. Palate is really, really nice. This is my style of WV Pinot.

  • Popega'd straight from the UPS guy and paired with Lamb Kabon and Salad for a quick but memorable lunch.

This wine is free of sediment or haze but the appearance would lead you to believe it's going to be full-bodied on the palate, but that's not the case. First thing in the glass the wine is darker than the 15 equivalent. Nose is a bit restrained at first but is starting to open up. Forest Floor, tobacco, black tea, and dark cherry. Rhubarb and Strawberry lead on the palate along with the sublime and subtle earthiness. On the mid-palate, the earth comes forward and the acid shines through carrying into the medium length finish of soft tannins. The acidity is present from start to finish on this wine and it holds the whole package together. Certainly a less ripe, more acid, and more concentrated than 2015. Is this is the fir crest component shining through? Right up my wheelhouse. The purity and elegance of this wine shine through without a funk to color or hide it. Can't wait to dig into the SVD's in the coming months and years. Amazing QPR again. Can't think of a $20 Pinot that I like more... Would guess this wine will drink well younger but could evolve into a sleeper after 5+ years. 13.8% ABV. This broods well for the forthcoming 2017 Bersker Cuvee which will be blended from these same fine sources. Automatic case buy.

DAY2: left corked on the counter at room temp. Day 2 the nose has come forward with more leather and fruit. Acidity has died down and integrated more. Savory and fruity notes are coming forward and the acid is less dominant. A rounder version of Day 1. This wine has a long glorious life ahead of it. Would benefit from 6-24 months in bottle. Doubt most of the first case will last that long to find out.
