I stole these bottles while Sams was closing out inventory. At $10 a bottle this is a great table wine. This 2006 is starting to show some age with the cork starting to saturate. However the color is still vibrant and inky black and the aromatics promise cherries with a hint of heat. The wines age shows in it's very soft tannins, and (as noted) slightly syrupy mouth feel. This held up well to some well marbled strip steak and proved better matched with food then alone. Overall a great value table wine. This vintage is likely in decline, and therefore a drink now wine.

shared with pat at selkirk manor. i love this produce, but something went wrong with this batch. willing to chalk up to bottle variation since there is one other positive note out there. but, both of my bottles suffer from a bitterness that i cannot associate with the usual wine elements. there is something foreign in this bottle but i cannot tell what it is. a hint of abruzzi fruit and earth come through but overall the bottle is not satisfying. should probably score lower but i respect the producer too much. time to move on and hope that later vintages do not have the same problem.

expected the worst after reading other reviewers - but pleasantly surprised. Decanted for 30 mins and it really opened up. Leather and spice, nice tannnins not too sharp. Also good on second day. worked very will with pasta and meat sauce and with cheese course. would drink ( and buy) again.

served this on christmas day. shared with pat, ellen, mahesh, giulio, donna, frankie, grandma and grandpa. paired with grandma's hand made lasagna. i have to agree with the majority of other tasters. the wine is very pleasant when first opened, offering ample aroma and fruit on the palate. after 15 minutes, it takes on a bitterness that seems unrelated to either acid or tannin. it would be disappointing if something went wrong in the winemaking process. will wait 6 months to try another one.

Liked it a lot in the beginning, some dry fruits and dark chocolate... after about 1 hour open it developed a strange bitter aftertaste. Still a decent wine but won't get better. Drink up.

Upon opening this had tasty red fruit and good minerality. However, after some air time, this was a bit too bitter for me on the finish without food. Matched well with homemade chicken marsala. Overall though, no complaints for the price point.

Good dark color, with big legs. Nose was extremely faint earth and cherry but got lost in the heat. Flavors were very one dimensional, but hinted at succulent juicy cherry, raspberry, and some earth. At times good, but it never seemed to come together, especially the nose. This wine definitely needs to be paired with food to really be of value - in fact with tomato-based dishes this really does well, but on its own...

An impressive effort, this shows an almost a Bordeaux-like style, with prominent notes of crushed currant, tobacco, and graphite. Concentrated with a relatively syrupy feel on the palate with fine tannins adding support.

Very rustic nose - horse sweat & leather - but in a pleasant way. In the mouth I taste leather and dried fruit (tart blueberries/apricot), but with a rather cutting level of acidity and a basic, one dimensional feel. That acidic sharpness is the predominant note on the finish, and that alone knocked at least three points off my score. Over-all this is an OK wine for the price, and I wouldn't turn away a glass if offered to me . . . however, I won't be buying more. I decanted for 90 minutes. Would pair well with roasted/grilled meat-based dishes, or with high fat non-aged cheese.

Dark color. Light/moderate intensity aroma with generic black and red fruits. Same fruit flavors with herb and earth. While the fruit is plain, the palate is ready, rich, supple and very balanced. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts especially considering how well it pairs with food. Oak influenced but not oaky. Overall, very good country wine. Texture the highlight.

I love a good montepulciono. However, this wasn't my favorite. Nose was dirt with hints of grass. The taste was not as smooth as i would have liked. Probably won't buy again.

A pretty decent wine, good body, dark red color, clean taste. Flavors are a little restrained for me, but I can appreciate the quality. Nose is vegetal, and finish is a little dissapointing

Boerne Wine Club - Italy (Scenic Loop Cafe, San Antonio, TX): Shy nose with some subtle fresh cherry. Round mouthfeel with ripe red fruits and a little plum. medium bodied, lush tannin. Finish a little short, but nice delivery overall all and a very enjoyable wine for the short term.

Deep purple color. Nice bouquet of flowers and cherry fruit. This is a tasty full bodied rustic Italian wine. A grapey black cherry palate that's a little sweet with a touch raisin and leather. Tannins are present but well integrated and keeps this wine interesting. The finish is medium.

dBar Tasting (dBar): Dark purple in the glass. Nose: some cherry fruit, brett (4-EP and 4-EG). Tiny bit of oak. P: a bit syrupy, with greenish sticky tannins.

Always a good "pull" as it pairs well with anything meat or pasta related. Not too much oak or overtly acidic, just a great QPR with nice balance.
