  • Ruby color, medium body. Nose is mostly plums and twigs. Tastes of blackberries, plums, cranberries, tart cherries, some spice, some forest floor, some wood. Says 14.5% alcohol but feels lighter. Still lots of tannins. Nice wine to pair with meat or acidic tomato-based sauce. Cellar another 2+ years.

  • Had this with spaghetti alla puttanesca. Such a perfect match! Just delicious. Fruity, with enough tannins and acid to stand up in the face of the hot peppers and the tomatoes and anchovies and capers.

  • clear, med ruby. Slight rim variation toward orange. Meda tearing no extract staining. Moderate intensity nose, dried red and black fruits some spice and forest floor. On the palate this wine was bone dry, with a juxtaposition of tart cherry and ripe plum flavors, and some pepper. Med+ tannin, med+ acid, med + alcohol. Med + body. Med finish.

  • Tasted blind. Clear, bright, medium (-) ruby/garnet with orange/garnet hues and some rim variation. Medium extraction and medium (+) legs. The nose is clean, with medium i(+) intensity aromas of tart and dried red fruit (red cherries, red plums, pomegranate), roses, aromatic herbs tar and partial neutral oak influence. The palate is dry to bone dry and consistent with the nose, with high acidity, medium (+) tannins and high alcohol (14.5%), which however seems a little lower. This is a medium (+) bodied wine, with a long finish and high complexity. It appears quite developed and already approachable, I guessed it was a 2011. This is a really a great value and worth seeking out.

    Given the color and the aromas, this could only be an Old World Nebbiolo or Sangiovese. The firmer structure and more tart flavors, point more to Piemonte. It is fresher and more concentrated than a Gattinara, but lacks the intensity and gravitas of a Barolo, tilting more towards Barbaresco or Langhe DOC.

  • The nose was pretty showing bright cherry, sweet rose tones, cedar dust, leather, hints of olive and earth. On the palate, I found soft textures offset by spiced cherry with vibrant acids enlivening the experience as fine tannin and minerals slowly saturated the senses. The finish was long, with notes of hard red candies, cranberry, spice and lingering fine tannin. This is amazing for the price and from an entry level wine. So easy to like already.
