Italian Tasting Group (Bella Puglia, Five Dock): Served blind. Leather, earth, a little mushroom, peppery prickle with quite savoury black fruits. Medium plus intensity acidity is mouth watering, tight chewy tannins close down the palate, wet fruit is quite muted. The nose kind of said Syrah (though the palate didn't) & age so I went with Cortona 2010...

Decanted, and consumed over five hours Deep dark ox-blood, purple hue, full bodied Charcoal, hints of vanilla and oak. motor oil, Super dry and astringent, grippy, aggressive tannin, medium plus finish Lots of minerality, iodine, hint of smokiness. A well made wine that still needs some time. Paired nicely with a slow-cooked rib dinner.

Agree with prior reviews that this is a bit of a confusing offering. Aggressive in the nose when opened and unripe and in the mouth. Does not soften at all after an hour of air. 86 after day one. Hope for improvement on day two.
Day two is more benign. The wine has lost quite a bit of its volatility, now feeling like a five year old Syrah. Upping my score - perhaps too generously - to 89.

Dark purplish red color. Black fruit, leather, and an array of animal notes, from bacon to (well cared for) barnyard. Long and surprisingly acidic aftertaste. Still young, but already fantastic wine, well worth revisiting over next 3-5 years.

Not good. Sharp, acidic. Hopefully will improve with age.

I normally love Fontodi but this was a miss for me. Rich blackberry, violet profile that was way over ripe. Wouldn’t have guessed Syrah blind.
