Didn't take notes - but my note from 2/2022 looks about right "rose petals, sweet cherry, tart cherry, cedar and red licorice on nose. On palate, still fruit dominant (sweet/sour cherry and strawberry) with touch of savory undertones. Medium+body, high acidity, medium tannins and long finish." 93-94 range. Has improved a little so probably closer to 94 today.

Roses, anisees, ripe dark cherries and some wilted leaves. Really grippy tannins directly upon opening but the tannins mellows and the wine opens up great after 45 minutes in a decanter. Really nice compination of fruit and some development right now. Great wine!

50th anniversary edition of the wine. Lovely aromas of cherry, raspberry, tar, and baking spices. Still a bit tight. Flavours on the palate follow the nose with a lot of structure to the wine. Tannins are noticeable but not obtrusive. Very good length and good amount of acid. Silky finish

This was my first experience with Ratti. Drank after leaving it open for three hours. This was a really sublime wine. Translucent brick red colour. Nose evoking dried flowers, leather, sigar box and so much more interlaced in a most harmonious way. On the palate it felt almost weightless and ethereal. Damn it was so good!

Need a few hours to open up, but when it does, it is quite delicious. Still vibrant ruby red. Complex nose of salty licorice, Montreal steak rub, flowers, leather, and cherry. Tight palate with spice, black tea, leather and bing cherries. Notes of tobacco and quay in the finish.

Pale Garnet Nose: Pronounced intensity, developing aromas of floral (rose, potpourri), red fruit (cherry, cranberry), herbal (dried herbs), spice (liquorice, cinnamon), tar, stones, oak (cloves, coffee), and tertiary (prune, mushroom, leather, hazelnut). Palate: Dry, high alcohol, drying high tannins, high acidity, full-bodied, high intense flavors of red fruit (tart cherry), floral (rose), herbal (thyme), spice (cinnamon), tar, stones oak (light roast coffee, cloves, nutmeg), and tertiary (mushroom, tea, leather). The wine has a medium(+) finish. This is a Very Good wine. The shorter-than-expected finish keeps it from Outstanding. This wine is Suitable for Bottle Aging.

Lots of cherry, wild strawberry, beautiful ruby colour. I think this needs a few more years - wonderful to sniff but it’s a bit abrasive on the pallet. A bit of time needed to smooth things out.

Highly enjoyable. Not overly oak at all – which apparently Ratti wines have a reputation for. Pretty light on its feet and remarkably approachable for a Barolo of this age. Good, bright red fruits, Italian herbs, florals, vanilla, a hit of anise. It was about as close to a smashable Barolo as i think you could get.

Decanted at Ristorante Solferino in Torino. From a half bottle. Huge lovely nose of roses, baking spices, hints of vanilla. Soft red cherries on the palate, more florality, mostly resolved tannins, minerality and tar too, in the spicy finish. Very smooth, well integrated, and balanced. Paired with the beef raviolini and later, duck.
Klar, medium dyp rød med noe brunskjær i kantene. Høy syre, tanninene sparker fra seg. Bjørnebær, vanilje, sjokolade, skogbunn på nese. Skogsbær, frisk oregano, lakris. Fin konsentrasjon. Medium lang.

Return to Piemonte!; 11/25/2021-12/4/2021 (Castello di Sinio, Alba, other various locations): In a vertical and this was just winning even though we had some older vintages. All bright and cherry and still that grippy and tannin but with an elegance which seriously balanced it. Great wine. Of course much too young but this is very young but drinking great sort of territory.

Gift of partial bottle - 14.2% abv. Received a partial bottle to try from my Oenophile neighbor. Coincidentally I had purchased a 2016 Corte Rossa Barolo (14.0% abv - $12) to accompany a tri-tip steak for dinner so I did an informal taste comparison (after a 1 hour decant for the Corte Rossa).
Served with Tri-tip Beef, Macaroni Salad & Caesar Salad.
The wines were a brownish-brick red on the pour, both somewhat dusky that I found somewhat off-putting, but in the glass were clear ruby red.
Red Raspberry & Blackberry on the nose. The Renato Ratti Barolo seemed to be pleasantly lighter in fragrance; the Corte Rossa, a little heavier with notes of plum, cassis and bramble.
The Renato Ratti was rather light bodied, with raspberries and cherries and spicy hints on the palate. The Corte Rossa seemed a little heavier-bodied with a slightly unpleasant taste, compared to the Renato.
Both wines were rather astringent with prominent tannins leaving a 'fuzzy-tooth' feel.
Finishes were lingering and pleasantly tart. The Corte Rossa somewhat less so.
It turns out I'm not a particular fan of Nebbiolo; High acidity and Prominent tannins conducive to aging necessary to integrate and mellow out its strong characteristics. In the meantime one is left to wonder where is the smoothness, the full round mouth feel.

Decanted 1h30m. Nose remained somewhat restrained, giving out some berries. The palate though - so good! Cherries, plums, great acidity that keep in check the still strong tannins, and a marked tar flavor on the nice, lingering ending. A well-made Barolo - and certain at a great price point!

Lighter in colour but with amazing depth of flavour. On the nose, roses, cherries, licorice. A very bright and refreshing acidity and verve, with an exceptionally long finish. This will age well -- try again in two years to experience even more enticing aromatics. Decanted two hours.
Medium garnet color. Muted red fruit nose. Intense sweet raspberries and wild strawberries with a little red cherry to boot. Cranberries and pomegranate take over at the mod-palate and into the long, slightly sour, tasty finish. The body is slightly chalky, which meshes perfect with the cherry tannins. Absolutely delicious stuff with intense red fruits.

I don't often sniff out a value on a restaurant wine list. But I wanted an Italian red to go with my beef pappardelle at Vintage Chop House in Bay Harbor Michigan. I found this barolo, and it was great and released at 65 and was only $84 on the wine list. Tannic, acidic with cherry and medium long legs. Pours light red and a more golden penumbra than I would expect for a five year old wine. Herbal, mineral and lithe.

During a merchant tasting. I am not a fan of Nebbiolo normally as I find the wines often both too alcoholic and with drying tannins. I am new to this producer and I liked very much what I saw in this tasting. TN: Dark fruit on the nose with some earthy elements. The palate is wonderful for a young Barolo, there is density but the tannins are polished. Can be approached now but will be even better with some more age.

Eye: Pale ruby Nose: light intensity, red cherry, rose, developing Palate: dry, high acidity, high alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity, red cherry, rose, slightly tart, hints of secondary flavors of raisin, toffee, caramel. Medium (-) finish. Quality: very good Can drink now but has potential for ageing. ideally cellar for another 3-5 years. Young, but very accessible. All the characteristic notes on the nose and palate: maraschino cherry, rose petals, hint of raisin and licorice. Nice tannic backbone that held up through Day 2. Round, if slightly tart, finish. Great balance and freshness, even at this early date. An exceptional value (especially at Costco) - stock up, and lay a few down!

Bottom line: One of the most expensive bottles of cooking wine we've ever bought. Her immediate reaction was "Pucker!", mine was "Hairy!" Brutal tannins; definitely for the hair shirt crowd. (Maybe we just don't understand this taste.) Neither decanting nor leaving it sit a couple days helped. On the other hand, so as not to have a total loss, we obtained a nice chunk of prime chuck and made a very fine pot roast with it.
Wow! Only briefly decanted but still outstanding - complexity in lovely black fruits/berries, a bit dry (young). A great barolo - will buy more and compare vintages

Per Costco:. WS 95, 27 of top 100 of 2019. This Marcenasco is smooth, balanced polished and faithfully reflects the typical characteristics of La Morra sub-zone. Elegant aromas of red fruits blend with hints of licorice. Full flavored, bold.

Why not open another barolo way too young? Unlike the revello, this was surprisingly drinkable. A bit lighter and airier, very nice red fruited and floral notes. Definitely has the roses, not so much the tar. This particular bottling is made in a traditional manner, I'm not sure about the other ratti wines. Still too young obviously but a fantastic qpr. I bought a few.

A too quick an assessment of this bottle - we were a few at the table so the bottle quickly disappeared. But from the PnP this offered the typical notes of Nebbiolo albeit with a slight shortage on complexity (which very well may develop with time). Rosehip, nail varnish remover, some chocolate. Rather silky tannins already and in my opinion already enjoyable. But a decant could probably reveal some more. Prefer this vintage over the 2012 but not by that much.

Decanted for two hours. Dried raspberry, wet earth, chestnut, sour cherry, fennel and orange chicken. The body is full and luscious, with slightly velvety tannins. The sailing finish is intriguing and developed, with a sumptuous middle palate. Through the gushing aspects, the details are very clear. The wonderful personality is addicting. Similar to the classic ‘05. Drink 2023 - 2038.

Grenat clair.

Fruktig, men aningen mindre än förväntat. Bra balanserade och relativt höga tanniner och syra. Inte superkomplex ännu, men där finns intressanta animaliska toner och lite lakrits. Lite mer än mediumlång. Utmärkt i sin klass.

This wine needs some time to open up. These notes were taken on the second evening / 24 hours after opening the bottle. The first glass was nicely aromatic as well but a lot leaner on the palate. I would not have rated this over 90pts at that time.
Light ruby-red color. Full aromas of fresh cherry and rose petals with some fennel and sweet tobacco. Medium full bodied with mouth coating grippy-smooth tannins and some bright fruit and fresh acidity. The finish is long and remains fresh throughout. Some room for improvement but quite approachable already. Drink now - 2025.

Full body, smoother tannins and acidity than what you’d expect for a Barolo ao young. Thoroughly modern and easy to drink. Leikely to improve with age, but can be Galileu drunk right now with a couple of hours decant.

Fragrant and elegant aromas of cherry, floral, anise, and wild berry notes. It is full-bodied with good fruit and density, well-managed, finely-grained tannins and lovely aroma replays along with crushed raspberry flavours. Nicely balanced throughout with fresh acidity and hints of mineral and licorice on the long finish.

Eye: Pale ruby
Nose: light intensity, red cherry, rose, developing
Palate: dry, high acidity, high alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity, red cherry, rose, slightly tart, hints of secondary flavors of raisin, toffee, caramel. Medium (-) finish.
Quality: very good
Can drink now but has potential for ageing. ideally cellar for another 3-5 years.
Decanted 4hrs but still wound a little tight, cellar for a few years to develop bottle aromas/flavors.

This Marcenasco is smooth, balanced polished and faithfully reflects the typical characteristics of La Morra sub-zone. Elegant aromas of red fruits blend with hints of licorice. Full flavored, bold.

One of the youngest of the night and one of the best; everything about this wine is just right. Violets, red fruits and spice awake and singing, and all the textures are in harmony. Exceptional for a young barolo.

Decanted for 3 hours before serving. Medium garnet.
Nose: wild strawberry jam, rose, violet, leather
Palate: medium acidity, medium tannins. Good balance and structure. Wild strawberry jam and violet, licorice, tar. Didn't blow me away at first but in the glass evolved into a beautiful barolo Rich with jam.
Finish: medium with good acidity.

Veldig god, men burde fått litt tid i karaffel. Tørr, fyldig, medium+ tannin.

As always, Ratti´s Marcenasco is a great bargain Barolo. Still at an early stage, this wine has wonderful Nebbiolo fruit material and depth. I think this vintage will emerge nicely over the next 10–15 years. 92+
