  • I think 90 is a fair grade for this well made wine. Pnp'd a glass last week then put a Repour stopper in the bottle in the cellar. Enjoyed another glass or two during the week then finished the bottle today. Consistent findings all throughout the bottle. I love Cali Malbec as it's bigger, smoother and generally less green tinged than the SAmerican rendition. This is dark in the glass, slightly vegetal or multivitamin like on the nose but big and rounded and smooth on the palate. The palate rules for me.....this '16 is in a good place right now with all elements integrating nicely. Still a hint of oak/astringency and nice acidic backbone. This is my only '16 but I do have a couple of '18s in the cellar......feel like I'd like to try them with a little more age on them.

  • Poured through AeroVin into a decanter, where it rested an hour before drinking. Very deep dark purple magenta color. Underripe spiced plum, black cherry, pecan, wild strawberry and rainy day on the oddly tart/dank nose. Smooth, dry, tart, chalky palate. Firm, full tannins on the long finish.

This was surprisingly disappointing. No sign of damage, just a poor nose. It’s possible it’s just too young, but that makes no sense for a Malbec. I don’t see this improving.
