Broadbent - Madeira, Port, and English Bubbles (One Market, SF): Medium-minus ruby with a hint of garnet at the rim. Stewed, baked fruit. Dried and stewed black cherry. Hint of tomato savoriness, and almost peppery reduction. The only Port so far with darker fruit. Well-integrated mushroomy oak. Reminds me of an aged Sagrantino - this is a red wine with development. Oak still has a bit of baking spice character, but is starting to integrate. Structured, tannic (high tannins, grippy and chewy), RS gives it away as not Nebbiolo, but it has tendencies in that direction. Acid is medium plus. Not super dark-fruited in the mouth, but there’s savory development. It’s like a very developed red wine with the structure of a young aggressive Nebbiolo. Tasty.

Nice, smooth, lovely balance, good fruit, fresh and dried raisins; rather simple but excellent mouth feel, freshness, and balance. Can't beat this for the price--great all-around high quality "everyday" port.

Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Some smoke and spice on the nose, perhaps even wood notes? Very ripe, red fruit, mostly slightly sweet red cherries, kirsch, and cherry liqueur. Light and elegant, though a bit simple.

Broadbent Wines (LIWSF, London): From a freshly opened bottle. It has quite a slight nose, with the Douro fruit characters opening up slowly. This is a good basic ruby. Very Good.

Nose of wet paint and brandy. Slow-moving and quite enjoyable. Relaxing wood vibes.

Fresh and fairly clean with a nice note of black licorice running through it.

Tasted with Bartholomew Broadbent at Haas class.
Slight chocolate flavor with strawberries. Rich. The peppery aroma shows a little alcohol note.
