First out of a case, paired with Peposo Italian beef stew. Zalto bdx glasses.
Medium + intense nose of spiced red fruits and plum, leather, dry forest floor and cedar.
pungeont opening on the palate with again these red fruits, medium + acidity but a bit hollow mid palate coved by pretty strict black tea like tannines. As if the wine is locked and not showing all (yet). You can feel the tension that there is more in de can but not showing yet.
2hrs decant later and dried flowers emerge and the fruit started to blossom more and became a bit sweeter. The wine comes more together but I still feel the future upwards potential.
Excellent pairing with the black pepper driven stew. Glad to have 5 more!

Excellent full bodied Gran Selezione Chianti. This is a little early to uncork but with an hour or two of air it springs to life. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

Already accessible and a really nice showing of the Sangiovese grape with a strong focus on perfectly ripe and juicy red fruits. There is some upward potential.

Earthiness, leather and hint of stable on the nose. Taste of solvent, dark berries, sour cherries with a long finish with intergrated oak. High acidity, medium+ tannins, medium body. The wine was well balanced but I was a bit disapponted, since 2013 was a big wine for me and the expectations were very high. More fruitiness was what I have expected. The wine felt quite young and I think it will benefit of more years in cellar.

Dark cherries, young cassis(!), earth, cast iron and horse. Long and fresh, despite the rather heavier flavours for a sangiovese... The depth and minerality is revealing a quite obvious gran selezione wine. The oak is getting more integrated and the tannins are still grippy but have soften a bit. This has definitely more to win from years in cellar but is a truly enjoyable wine now.

(Decanted for one hour) Deep red colour with a lovely maturing nose showing herbs, sweet red fruit and opens up with liquorice and fresh mint in a lovely way. Still showing austere tannins and warm primary fruit on the palate and shows herbs and some liquorice on the balanced finish. (Best 2026-2036)

(Decanted for half an hour) Deep red colour with a blueish hue with a youthful nose showing herbs, warm red berries and some hints of mint. Nice on the palate with minerals and a distinct short finish. (Best 2026-2036)

Great Gran Selection CC: cherry, clove, prune, plum, dried red fruit, medium body, bit young yet with some air time already in its early drinking window, great sour and smooth finish.

Complex layers of tobacco, cherry, and some vanilla. Strong hints of earth and tobacco on the nose. Pairs nicely with a sausage and pepperoni pizza and guanciale.

On the nose, it is balsamic and black fruit notes that dominate.
The palate is more structured than the 2019 Dolcetto Prunotto with which it was drunk in parallel. The juice is denser, with a good balance, built for a few years of aging. Cherry mixed with sweet spices is omnipresent in the mouth. There is a touch of acidity which makes it digestible and a finish that is still a little tannic.
You can smell the wine which is slowly maturing and which is well constructed, it is pleasant.

Deep, clean and clear black-red colour, classic Chianti nose starting red cherries, tobacco, fresh and dense fruit on the palate, backed by depth, shy tannins, fine, bright acidity, and very strong finish. Vintage keeps getting better.

Clean, deep ruby, pronounced on the nose, bright red cherry, tabak, cedar, vanilla, wet leave, slight medicinal, Tuscan dust. High acidity, high fine, ripe and well integrated tannins, full body, high alcohol, well integrated/balanced, long lovely finish, can drink now, had potential to age. Very good wine.

Small tasting pour only. Followed the Volpaia wines and I thought this was almost as good as Volpaia Il Puro Casanova, and liked it definitively better than the 2013 Gran Selezione I have in my cellar.

A nice CC, malvasia nera and colorino give a nice twist in sweetness and color to sangiovese, with time in the glass this gains tremendous finesse, becomes very polished and soft tannin, not my favourite style, but certainly a well carved wine

One of the few Chianti Classicos that I really like. Fruity, structured, perfect drinking window.

Still on the young side, I have never had such a strong focus on fresh fruits in a Gran Selezione.
