  • If this is aging, it's at a geologic pace. Vanilla, fig, raisin, anise, molasses, caramel, butterscotch, and other related flavors evolving on the palate through the long finish. This isn't elegant, but it's hard to resist; dessert in a glass.

  • Lacks a bit acidity. Very sweet and a bit clumsy. Not a elegant and ballanced as some of the wines from the 80ties...

  • Very dense and a dessert on its own. Had a bit of chocolate with it and not suggesting to try the same!

  • Love all the notes by other users, so good to see different opinions on this wine. Deep & thick black in the glass. Aromatics that hit first are coffee, caramel, toffee, tobacco and licorice. A very cloying sweetness with not much acidity and liveness (but that’s typical PX). Still, so fascinating to see how a wine like this can age flawlessly. If they found this wine 200 years from now in an alien civilisation, I bet it would taste exactly the same as it does now. Incredible.

  • Obviously there are people who really like this stuff. I don't. It reeks of licorice and sulphuric smokes and tastes like overripe candied figs. Some wise man told me I should wait a lot longer - I tried this over almost two months and it just does appeal to me at all, so I think I will give it a rest. For a long time.

  • This is the color of used motor oil. On the nose, raisin, fig, candied orange, and honey. On the palate, fig, raisin, and coffee, with notes of toffee and burnt orange on the medium to long finish, with moderate acidity. This is ready to drink, but it should hold for many years, and may improve. The acidity falls a little short for my taste, or I would score it higher. This was a bargain at about $35.

  • Not really sure how to rank this since I've never had anything like it but simply amazing. Chocolate, milk, celery, richness. Wonderful. Always amazes me when a wine this old can taste so fresh. Don't have this with dessert, have it as dessert.

  • This is good value. Orange peel and flowers, raisin, dry figs. Very dense, this is quite sweet and intense

  • Method: served chilled (about 55 degrees); small wine glass

Look: deep black, fades to jaundice yellow/brown at the edges; high+ viscosity, coats the glass; looks like motor oil

Nose: coffee, black licorice, anise, raisin, hay, dark chocolate; expressive nose

Palate: molasses, sugared raisins, brown sugar, anise, baking spices, salted caramel; long+ finish of brown sugar, molasses, raisin, slight saline, nuts, celery salt; full+ body; high+ sweetness; high- acid; no heat; amazing intensity in both mouthfeel and flavor

Overall thoughts: Wow! So intense, rich, and sweet, yet so balanced! This is pure decadence in a bottle and is completely delicious by itself, with blue cheese or even hazelnut ice cream.

  • I had a hard time with this wine. I usually love sherry, but this didn't seem to have much to it beyond it's tar-like viscosity and sweetness. I will see what day two brings.

Day 2 after being in the fridge... no change.

Day 4: I decided to pour a glass at 8am and leave it to breathe all day long. Wow, was this a different wine. Rich toasted almonds, toffee, chocolate, and, hints of herbal citrus. Even after 30 years, this needs more time or lots of air.

  • Tasted at the O'Briens Spring Festival here in Dublin. Absolutely blew my socks off, and Star of the Show for me, despite there being 300 plus wines on display. Almost black colour, and tasted of the sundried raisins, sugary, but not sticky, with molasses and treacle staying with you. Immediately went out and bought a bottle to savour, a little touch of heaven on the palate.
