What a contrast to the NV Gossart. 2019 Disgorgement. Lovely nose showing rich nuttiness, dried fruit. Lively on the palate with solid acidity and very fine mousse; excellent density and richness. Beautiful right now.

This is a wide opened, and absolutely fabulous, 2008. There is freshness from green apple peel and sweet apple slices, bracing mineral, with hard rock like perceptions. There is some spice and maybe a little broom straw perception, bread notes. Really nice.

Dibbs's birthday celebration: Brought as an extra. Surprisingly approachable for a 2008, this is always one of the houses that give the most pleasure. Rich, creamy texture that made it a hedonistic and fun champagne, just as it should be.

PnP, very shy still, crisp and rahter lean, some citrus, a bit of red apples, cinnamon spice. Feels very young. Hard to say what this will give once mature. My take is that while some 2008 are drinking fabulously (eg Dom, Rare, Taittinger CdC) others are still completely closed. This is in the later camp. Wait till 2028 with this. 92-93

Dinner at Liuyishou (Chicago, IL): Excellent wine, par for the course for Charles Heidsieck during this era. Shows a little more pinot (or at least mushroom and earth) than I would have expected; this doesn't have the same freshness as 2008 BdBs. Holds its acidity well; plenty of life for the long haul.

Charles Heidsieck Millesime 2008. A star in the making. 92-93p

(Disgorged in 2019, 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, dosage 8 gr/l) Light yellow colour with a slow stream of very fine bubbles in the glass. Recently disgorged and showing a youthful and fresh nose at first with citrus, minerals and fruitiness. Opens up with a wonderful roasted hazelnuts and coffee note in a delicious way. Nice and fresh on the palate with red apples and a delicious creamy note on the mid before an excellent intensity on the lengthy finish showing lime juice acidity and leaving an excellent saltiness on the lips. Just delicious right now, especially when it is left to air in the glass for some time… (Best 2023-2043)

Opened for my 36th birthday. I saved a glass for the next day, wow. Rich, unctuous, vibrant, the flavors have changed and mellowed from the first night, much more brioche, almost butterscotch sweetness.
Give this 5 to 20 more years and it will be great. Ill try to save a bottle because it'll be worth it. The '08 champagnes are clearly spectacular.

Lots and lots of unripe citrus and lime mingle with yeast and green apples. Also chalk and a touch of smoke. Somewhat aggressive mousse, teeth etching acidity, minerals galore. Very, Very long. Painfully young but still a real treat. Lots of potential for the future.

Still young, but the lime-like acidity is just integrated enough that it’s still a pleasure to drink. Some Krug-y notes of jellied fruit and hazelnuts. Richer and just as complex on day 2. This has great upside and could easily add 2-3 points after more time down. Can be drunk now, but should be very interesting come 2023/2024.

Dry, acidic, apple, long finish and balance with a bit more oak. Not as floral as other champagne like Cristal. It needs to sit in the cellar for a while as it was released early this year. I personally think that this is a better Champagne than the NV CH I tried at the same night. More balanced but of course it costs more. I enjoy this better than the NV CH .

Great nose with soft yellow fruits. On the palate lemon, creamy nut notes and some soft brioche. Beautiful soft perlage and acidity. Great structure and balance, a little bit too sweet in the background for my palate. This still feels quite young. Delicious but some more years in the cellar will definitely be good.

*Score: 92-93 points (rated 93 due to upside) *Disgorged in 2019 The nose has a clear toasty and yeasty character lending richness to its aroma profile. Green and yellow apples dominate both nose and palate. Slight touch of pear as well.
More yellow apples on palate together with a touch lemon. Some nice chalk that adds a nice texture. Great concentration and I assume this will add further complexity with age (and accordingly additional points). Elegant and small bubbles. Quite invigorating and lively without appearing rough. Young and tight now with a racy spine of acidity, but still rich.
Although slightly linear at this time, I sense this might very well prove to be a stunning Champagne with additional cellaring. Slightly tart and chalky finish. Approachable, but I would probably give this another 3 years before I approach again. 92 points now. Upside for 93/94 points. Preffered this over Henriot due to bit more complexity.

Incredibly young and a bit tighter than the two bottles before. Unfortunately also quite tasty so we finished it fairly quickly. It's a softer style which I'm learning is a trend with this house. 60% PN, 40% Chard. The plan is to showcase the Ambonnay. Very few made, but will definitely be seeking this out.
Gareth's blind 2008 Grand Marques (Chez Bruce): Tasted blind. Strong mousse, but not very giving on the nose or the palate. If it wasn't under DIAM I might contend that it was subtly corked. Perhaps the austerity results from the closure. NV CH of similar age is a better bet for now (at least).
