This might be just an entry level Rotie from Guigal, but it is always a joy to come back to. Blended with 4% of Viognier, aged for 36 months in oak, 50% new. Deep ruby colour. Intense aroma of plums, dark cherries, blackberries, vanilla, kirsch, spices, hints of black olives, leather and cold cuts. Medium+ body, powerful and rich but at same time fresh, youthful and restrained with toasty and delicately smoky red fruit flavours, spicy edges, medium acidity and medium extra fine tannins.

From magnum. Open for drinking. Quite fresh and elegant and not at all heavy. Bright red fruits with careful oak and tannins backed by acidity in a surprising harmony considering that the wine still is quite young. Will hold at least another decade.

Deliciously aromatic nose of dark cherry, raspberry and plum, wild garrigue, with layers of black olive tapenade, smoked meat, game, leather, peppery spice and a frame of integrated vanillin oak. Ripe and powerful on the palate, but with lift and freshness and a long peppery finish. Drinking very nicely.

Super Rhone Saturday 2017 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Slightly toasty oak, wild blackberry and brambly fruit, sweet spice, a little peppery underpin. Juicy, fleshy, savoury but with wild brambly fruit and a little peppery spice, tannins are silky, persistent and long. Lovely.

Perfect to game-meat/Grouse. Oaky, but so lean and elegant. Smell’s forrest floor, Forrest berries, mushroom. 2017 and still young, but oh so drinkable now. Love it 🍷

2021 Guigal single vineyard cote rotie release dinner (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): Concentrated blackberry, a little polished oak, and a little black pepper, tiny smidge of brett, cream. Concentrated blackberry & olive on the palate as well as grippy, grainy tannins close things down, the fruit just about persists, a touch of fleshiness here as well. Hmm.

Very polished wine. Black olive with blackberry flavors. Mineral aftertaste with silky tannins. I would have like more ripe fruits. Not a good quality/price wine. Wife: 86….she was hoping for a lot more given the appellation and too be honest…me too..

Medium ruby red colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with dark plum, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, black pepper, juniper berries, smoke, toast, charred wood and meat. Pronounced taste of dark plum, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, black pepper, juniper berries, smoke, toast, meat, roses and lavender. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Medium (+) body. A very good Côte-Rôtie that has developed well, but has further potential. Part of my WSET3 exam prep. Drink now or over the next 10yrs

Elegant structure, with the viognier adding nice lift. More polished and smooth, with an olive character on the palate with minimal pepper. Backend seems dominated by toast and oak tannins—really not integrated at this point. Best to hold, expect it to improve.(cross fingers) Oak notes no better on night 2. Unsure if this is predictive of the future.

Suave and feminine stylistically, offering considerable elegance. Seemingly a lighter vintage, yet the quality of fruit stands out. The bouquet and profile deliver pepper, charred earth, herbs (including tobacco), coal, and intriguing meatiness.
On the downside: TOO MUCH OAK!!! Damn! The heavy lumber treatment detracts from the wine's considerable subtleties.
Not an extended ager, though a few years in bottle will round it out. Drink by 2030 or so. 92-93.
Peppery red fruits, black raspberries, smoke, and plum aromas come to the surface. On the palate the wine is sweet, juicy, elegant and fresh with plenty of juicy, lifted, fresh fruits in every sniff and sip. This is already delicious and it will be even better with a few more years in the bottle.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. It smells parfumed, black currant (cassis) and mineral. It tastes like black pepper, and liqurish. The body is medium. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Youthful, fresh and medium-bodied. Crushed blueberries, bacon, white pepper, lavender, rosemaryand a pleasant mineral finish. Certainly drinkable now but neefs 3–5 years before it will hit its peak.

Blueberry, blackberry, dried herbs, and iron. Very savory with great acid and tannin. I have another bottle that I will lay down and go back in several years to see how it develops. Delicious wine now, but I think it will only get better with time.

Raspberries and wild berries with a silky, leathery finish. Acidic, could do with many more years in the bottle, but what the hell, it's a fine drop.

Green olives, crushed rocks, astringent tannins but not overwhelming. Needed 45 min to open and peaked after 60 min then closed down
