- Garnet color with slow forming legs and aromas of dusty and oak. It's balanced and has flavours of cherry and oak with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Cork disintegrated when opened. Velvety finish. Oak on the front end with a phenomenal berry finish.
First glass: Very drinkable without food. Not very complex in its flavors. Recommended drinking age puts this vintage past its prime, but a very pleasant surprise none the less.

Significantly better than my previous tasting. Much more rich and full flavored, a medium length finish and soft tannins. Still no blockbuster but not green elements and some dark rich fruit with hints of mocha. This was the best bottle yet.

Maybe not so Epic… Definite green streak, although subtle. Some dark rich red fruit showed on the nose after an hour, but it’s a little subdued. Overall, the nose is a little hot and watery. In the mouth, it’s a little lacking, restrained and thin. Finish has clear tannins, and is short-medium in length, with a little bit of chocolate and on the finish.. I’m not sure this will be getting any better.

1997 California Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot Pairs (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Very good, but somewhat shy nose with a little bit of alcohol. Too tannic for the amount of fruit left. Tasted blind. My 6th & group's 5th (69 pts).
