Super sweet nose (a Melville trait) but the first identifiable thing you smelled was not fruit but something from the vegetable world, reminded of carrot tops (when you buy a fresh bunch and have to snap off the greens? That.) There was also cherry, pepper and a sweet earthy flavor like raw rutabega. All that slipped away fairly quickly and was replaced with that overripe poison-spice thing not unlike RAID ant killer similar to how overripeness expresses itself in Paso. Nothing here that's normal for Melville--I'm guessing this had a mercaptan issue.

Honestly my wife and I thought the bottle was way off. I got nothing but green pepper on noise and black pepper on the palate. I won’t give it a numbered score cuz we love Melville (usually).

Tasted blind. Med (+) purple with a ruby rim. Clean, med (+) aromas of ripe black fruit, blue fruit, hatch chili pepper, black pepper, smoke, pine, juniper, vanilla, some French oak. Dry, with med (+) acidity, tannins, and alcohol. Med (+) body, flavor intensity and length, with sweet red fruit, a stemmy vegetal note and a savory finish. Still a little young, this should gain complexity over time. New World (clean, fruit-forward), moderate climate (ripe, sweet, but not as much as Australia).
