Last bottle we opened seemed to have some old world raisin character to the fruit which we liked; this one didn't, leaving some vanilla oak holding the bag. Not impressed.

Once upon a time we loved this wine. I recall paying around $30/bottle for it when we lived in Alaska in the 90's, but lost interest after visiting the ostentatious winery they built in Sonoma and haven't touched a bottle in 20 years. Until yesterday that is, when I saw a remaindered bottle at a local market for just $18. Why not, for old times sake, and we opened it last night. It was eminently drinkable when first opened but gained complexity in a decanter over about two hours, and it was a hit at the dinner table. Impossible not to like and a crowd pleaser that actually has some raisinish Italian notes along with boysenberry, plum, canned tomato, dried fruit leather and bay leaf. A few tannins play in the background (it's mostly sangiovese but petite sirah is in the blend) but it goes down like silk.

Decanted 1 hour before first glass. Full bodied, nice texture, and good length, with blackberries, tomato leaf, and spices atop a bed of briars and brambles. It needed 1.5+ hours of air to show its best, letting it shed some of its baby fat while allowing the fruit to become more pronounced. A nice whiff of ash dusted the warm finish. A crowd pleasure and way too easy to drink.

Retail $22. Under screwcap. Sangiovese, Malbec, Pete Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruity (blackberry and plum) and fun (spice, black pepper) on the nose as well as the palate, this is a perfectly juicy crowd-pleaser type of wine. No introspection required, only a quick twist of the top and several empty glasses. Open this around a crowded table and it will disappear quickly. Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com

A bit young but very consistent with previous vintages. This clean fresh Sangiovese based blend more than competes with mid priced Chianti and Tuscan IGT. Good value

Ferrari-Carano wine tasting dinner. First time with this wine. We're told that this is a Sangiovese based meritage that has been made for many years. Notes of blackberry, raspberry a little plum and vanilla. Medium bodied, and a little disjointed at this point, this shows a little wood although most of the barrels used were neutral. Not sure of the closure, but seems to need time to come together.

Quite dependable and good wine for a mixed table. Very bright fruit, very slightly sweet, good complexity and a great finish.
Followup note: the rest of the bottle the second day was so sweet, compared to a couple of other wines today the sweetness dominated.

A nice Sangiovese blend (with Malbec, Petit Syrah, & Cab) that is fruit forward, balanced & drank well. Overall, I enjoyed this rich & flavorful wine.

65% Sangiovese, all neutral oak, some malbec and kitchen sink in there as well. Kinda dusty and good, but just whatever and whereever.
