  • This wine is rocking right now. Yes it needs air and will certainly benefit from age but it is such a joy to drink right now. Impecable balance. Not a hard edge on this wine yet its true potential is still tightly wound. 95+. Hold if you only have 1 or 2. If you have more open one to try.

  • At PnP…visually on point for brunello, some orange at the rim, deeper ruby than some. some vanilla (which makes sense if i recall aging regimen), dark cherry, plum, balsamic, dried Italian herbs, potpourri, and a hint of mint. Palate is cherry, licorice, tar (in a good way) and maybe some balsamic again. Good line of acidity, and very youthful tannin.Very drinkable. See how it evolves tonight and should continue to age a decade plus.

Was this a good Brunello? Yes, it was. Was it unbelievable and mind blowing as the scores? No, it wasn't.

  • Unreal. Best brunello I’ve tasted.

  • This could be my top 5 wine ever. Really love the acidity of the Sangiovese as the red fruit balances perfectly to create the perfect harmony. Red currants, raspberries, cranbarries together with the minerality create a taste that lasts for a very long time. Lucky I have two bottles left, will wait at least 5 years for the next bottle, if I can keep my fingers off :)

  • Superb.

A more modern style but killer Brunello.

Tasted alongside the '16 Lisini Bdm Ugolaia. Both are infants, but I was itching to pop some newer Brunello as I'm a man of deep curiosity. Well maybe not in the philosophical sense, but definitely when it comes to great wines ;)

Both Brunello, profile wise, are cut from the same cloth. Deep dark Garnett color. Black red fruits. Tuscan rusticity. Seductive nose.

But this 2015 BdM is more opulent, extracted, bold. A differentiate versus the finesse-centric, fine tuned guitar 2016 vintage BdM's.

This is drinking better at the moment, given plenty of air (decanted 6+ hours), this sophisticated brute will demand your attention. Both will benefit from years of rest as their best drinking windows will only begin in the next 3 years+ and then for the next 10-20.

An interesting comparison in many ways. Producer vs producer. Vintage vs vintage. Modern vs traditional wine making approach.

For me, the '15s have been Brunello of excellent concentration, power, and personality. Whereas the '16’s also have great concentration but with unassuming elegance and laser precision.

Both are epic vintages in this CT'er’s humble opinion.

Of the two wines tonight, I'd unquestionably give this the nod. ('16 Lisini BdM Ugolaia 95+)

  • Drank over two days. These notes are for day 2. Very nice nose of dark cherries - some medicinal herbs as well. Balanced acidity, deep plums and cherries on the mid-palate, a touch of oak and white pepper on the ending. Powerful, yet elegant, already in a good drinking spot. Definitely a very, VERY good Brunello.

  • Very juicy stuff. Decanted two hours.
Strawberries, raisins, licorice and cherry pits on the nose.
Palate is smooth, not sure where all the tannins went, if they are resolved or that they were never prominent. Sweet and unctious, wouldn't guess a Brunello blind, but very tasty nonetheless. Long and broad finish.
Technically, nothing wrong. Score higher if you prefer fruit-driven Brunello.

  • Tight but letting it open up over night and will see the beauty come out after some time.

  • Nowhere close to ready. Have a case and won’t touch another bottle for 5 years. Tons of potential. Not sure it’s Suckings 100 pointer but could definitely be a gorgeous wine in 5-10 years. Looking forward to its progression.

  • Tasted blind and got this completely wrong as I didn't expect such a floral bouquet. Other than that mostly red berry fruit and layers of herbal complexity, both dried and fresh. Once revealed it was easy to discover the signature dried tomato notes. Firmly structured yet light and soft at the same time with a long finish. I am not a big Sangiovese drinker hence positively surprised how round and soft Sangiovese can be this young.

  • Glossy, if a bit one dimensional at present.

  • Suckling's Great Wines of Italy (Loews Hotel - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Clearly modern styled, but so many great things are going on here. Old vine concentration with ripe black and red cherry, sweet and savory spice with floral character. There is wonderfully bright texture coming from great acidity and soft, elegant tannins. Great now with so much upside.

  • Tasted at a Siro Pacenti dinner at Fiorino Ristorante in Summit, NJ. This is a really huge and powerful wine that still exudes balance and refinement. Gloriously long on the palate and very aromatic with florals, chocolate, cherries and game meat elements that layer nicely and finish in a long elegant style despite the rich and hearty flavors. Decent acidity and soft tannins should allow this to drink well over the next few years and still age gracefully through its 20th birthday.

  • Suckling Great Wines of the World in Miami. One of the best wines among many great wines and particularly other Brunellos. Wonderful fruit and simply delicious.
