This wine is not as heavy or tannic as some Italian Sagrantinos that I've had. Also a bit light in color, but a pretty purple/red. Does have a bit of a rustic characteristic. Tart cherry and some raspberry, plum, blueberry. Lots of earth. Some black pepper notes, cinnamon. Open tight and tart, but it's opening nicely in my Grassl 1855 and really beginning to show its fruit. LOVE the label.

Hoped the expert palates present wouldn't suspect a California ringer, and they didn't. Citrus, cranberry relish, not oaky, bay leaf, assertive tannins, nice finish.

Floral nose with plums, red currants, and savory herbs on the palate--very loyal to the Italian original. Barely medium bodied and therein lies it's charm. Perfect red wine for a cold tomato salad dinner on a hot day.

Plum and camphor on the nose. On the palate, plum, currant, and notes of lemon, dusty earth, and savory spice on the medium finish, with moderate tannins and good acidity. This doesn't have the strong tannins and powerful acidity of the Italian versions, but the flavor profile is classic Sagrantino. This was a good value at a little over $20.

Fairly dark maroon with purple highlights. Flowery nose. Palate is fantastic, tart red fruit but light like a pinot. Acid and tannins are forward but not aggressive. Herbs and chalk finish. Cool stuff.

Last July's bottle was the best so far, at least we thought it finally showed some improvement on the way. This one, a lot grumpier. I'm losing hope.

Less tart and more satisfying than prior bottles. Peppery and plummy with a tad of Constant Comment spice. Excellent.

This one seems clamped down a bit and more rustic than the bottle opened last August. Might be getting ready for a nap.

Inky, deep, not super rich but very pleasant. Dry finish with a juicy mouthfeel. Really interesting and worth trying!

Sweet and flowery on nose, great aromatics, very different fruit! Thyme herbaceousness, fresh juice, medium-heavy tannin.
