Opening this well beyond the expected drinking window. A deep dark red, but no evidence of browning. Alcohol is immediately evident on the nose. Followed by fruit. Lots of blue and black fruit aromas. (I was expecting the fruit to be entirely gone). On the pallet even more fruit, and lots of well integrated sweetness.
I really like this and am surprised to see that it is drinking so well 6 years after its window.
On subsequent pours the alcohol is gone, replaced with even more fruit aromas. There is the very slightest bit of alcoholic burn when drinking, but I hardly notice. 20 second finish. Viscous mouthfeel.
I will definitely acquire more if the opportunity presents itself.
EDIT: On day 2, while still enjoyable, this wine is much more boring. There is little to be gained by giving this wine time to develop after you open the bottle.

I enjoyed this bottle more than the last few. I think I'm getting used to it's sweet fruity character. It reminds me of a fruity port with no complexity. Decent, nothing special.

with chocolate dipped pretzels. Dark purple black. Chocolate, plum, blueberry and balsam nose with very sweet delicious flavours. A sweet finish. I loved this one.

Dark purple wine that is a little more viscous than a normal wine, but not as much as some sweet wines. Nose contains prune, dates, and spice. Taste is excellent with layers of blue and black berries coming through nicely. Most importantly for me, there is enough Umph to get the fruit taste into the long and lingering finish. This is an excellent after dinner wine that is drinking wonderfully right now.

WCC US Syrah Blind (Provence Restaurant, Albany, NY): [Pop and pour.] 500ml bottle. Nice rich sweet wine, but seems a bit heavy and clunky after the Bane.

Past peak. Tasted like grape maple syrup...

Not sure why I did not like this bottle as much as previous. Fortunately I have another bottle to try in a year or so.
