Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Light nose of berries, cherries, smoke and raspberries. Flavors of red berries, raspberries and a hint of red cherries. Bright acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now.

Decanted for 1 h prior to first taste. Nice juicy fruit profile along with some interesting secondary flavors, Rustic feel and nice tannins. Medium minus acid. Nice intro to M d'A. Good QPR.

Based on my last TN, I gave this bottle 15 minutes of slo-ox, but the wine showed better after 30 minutes. A red fruit and earth nose. The medium bodied palate showed mostly lighter red fruit (slightly tart), along with some darker red fruits, earth, minerality and a touch of spice, wrapped in a juicy acidity.

2018 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Il Vino dal Tralcetto, $15. Mid-dark garnet, some viscosity (13% alc.); old world red fruit nose; earthy, cherries, wood; mid-body; some depth; long tight woody8 finish; opens with air. w/beef. 16 UC Davis scale, 90 other scales.

Dense red color. Licorice and plum nose. Light body with firm tannins. Notes of vanilla bean and coffee followed by black cherry and olive. Enjoyed with a simple meal of Italian sausage with tortellini and ragu sauce. A charming country wine for a weekday dinner. Light, aromatic, with engaging flavors.

PnP, but better after 15 minutes of air. Deep violet color. A simple but pleasant wine from a dependable producer. Tart red and dark red fruits and earth notes balanced by juicy acidity. Should hold for several years, but probably not improve. Pretty good QPR at $15 and under.

Always a solid wine, this opens to dark fruit, cool stones, asphalt, and spices. Plummy and dry in the mouth, with good brightness and a touch of bitters on the finish.

Strong meaty smell, red/purple color. Big first taste, plums, cherries, hinds of beef. Finishing smoothly with medium linger. Not great complex flavours but good match to our Greek lamb tonite.

Inspired by an article in the NYT about $10 wines that featured a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (I think), Dulcie scored this one at Costco. Bright clear red, lively tart cherry on the palate, medium-high acidity, low tannins. Decent wine and a nice alternative to the industrial cabs that so often surround us. Would buy again.

This wine initially shows badly: flat cherry with barely there tanins a bit hot and oddly flabby. After 15 minutes it livens up considerably and balances out fruit, acidity, tanins. Develops a bit of tar and leather. Still pretty simple but decent QPR.

Haven't had this one in a few vintages, but it's still quite good. Very bright and lively, with great acidity. There's an initial tart edge to the cherry/strawberry/raspberry fruit that splays out into ripeness. Has some pleasant minerality on the finish.

This wine benefits from low expectations, but it’s a delicious table wine. You could do a lot worse for $13. Simple, but really fruitful and easy to drink.

It must be young, because it tasted closed on the first night and got better each day for several days. Eventually, soft tannins embraced a tomato blackberry stew, with white pepper and charred oak notes.
