Less Celebrated France WIMPS #176 26th April 2024 (La Trompette, Chiswick): My wine. A little cheesy on pouring. Pleased to report that this blows off with some swirling. There is a little brett that is right up my street with some plum fruit, a couple of ppm of Balsamic vinegar. Palate has some dark cherry, some plum and a little smoke. Not as good as my last bottle around 3 years ago but an honest, old-school Morgon with nearly 20 years on the clock. I might be being a tad harsh with it.

Lovingly cellared. Cork broke in removal but wine was intact. Deep garnet to the eye. Cherries with a later hint of vanilla to the nose. Sound tannins with a little pucker. Structurally stillage worthy but I think the nuances are fading.

2005 Morgons: Full cherry red. In the nose, there's some reduction at first and some barnyard, but this goes away. It gets finer and finer, more and more expressive, there's some tar, there's clear black cherry fruit, it's more linear than expansive. In the mouth, there's some CO² at first, but also this goes away, fairly strong tannin, some tar again, very mineralic, long and round in the finish. At first, this was quite similar to a Northern Rhône Syrah, but it gained in Morgon profil with every minute. A great bottle of Morgon.

I thought I'd age a bottle a bit just to see what happens. Dark garnet in colour, with some bricking. Classic, fruity beaujolais nose with mainly cherries, plums, and a hint of tar.Very fruity on the smooth, velvety, medium bodied palate. It really hasn't moved very much at all yet. Still quite simple and youthful: it should last a while (B+).

Starting to drink interesting. Baby fat has led to a more complex experience, but there is still enough fruit, specially the palate, where the wine is wide.

Deep brick/purple in colour. Lovely nose of redfruits and black licorice. Medium to full bodied on the smooth, velvety palate, with deep, sappy cherries, blueberries, minerals and tar/smoke. Very slight, ripe tannins on the finish. Mouth staining finish. Excellent, powerful beaujolais that should last a few years easily. Very impressive (A-).

Somewhat floral nose, with juicy red fruits and even a hint of tomato. The fruity nose belies a drier palate, with tannins that are harsher than I would expect. However, the fruit is less prominent on the palate, with notes of licorice and brown spices showing through instead.

Pretty barnyard on the nose and taste. Disappointed that the fruit and licorice isn't coming through.

Bret. Perhaps a bottle flaw... too animal. Will try again and then rate.

Buena nariz de violetas, chocolate, un tanto animal, con mucha fruta. En boca es suave, amable pero firme, con taninos delicados; no cansa. buen vino.

Wonderful violet wet forest floor nose. Very smooth entry but disappointingly dumb finish.

Wine Education Service - Sorry! The Beaujolais Nouveau Has Not Arrived: Dark, opaque, very youthful.
Beautiful very youthful nose.
Some fruit, peppery, very tannic, great length. Might improve with five or more years' cellaring.
