  • Smells strongly of rose, eucalyptus. Tastes vibrant, still very tannic.

  • A saturated, suitably spicy Barolo which treats the palate with teenage tingly tannins and therapeutic Balsamic trappings. Save for your old age, no fruit remaining to depart before you do. Or, serve up the Ragu Bolognese over Jovial Farfalle.

  • Forest undergrowth, earth, and spice initially on the nose; the fruit is somewhere on the back burner, stewing away. Quite musty. On the palate, there’s a bit of leather and earth but with a still vibrant core of cherries and strawberries. A touch of smoke and oak rounds out the finish, which goes on for a remarkably long time. Still a bit too young, but already drinking quite nicely after a couple hours. I’d give this another 2-3 years and check back. Really solid bottle for the price point.

  • By the glass at Eataly. Soft nose of cedar and vanilla. On the palate, bright red fruit, tar, chewy tannins that really stick around for a long cottony finish. Paired with agnolotti.

  • Fabulous Barolo from an awesome vintage. Big structure but easily accessible now with dark fruits integrated. Hints of tobacco, anise, and cough medicine. Well balanced and good length.

  • Medium-deep bright garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of youthful & still-developing, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & plums with lovely floral overtones of violets & roses, spices, dried herbs, earthy, dusty, loam, licorice, leather, tar & minerals. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced, silky smooth textured, youthful & still developing, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, mulberries & pomegranate with herbs, earthiness, spices & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well with decanting & airing and will benefit and develop further with additional aging.

  • Nose: cherry, truffles, roses, faint orange zest. Chocolate came out with air.

Palate: thin continuation of the nose, with the addition of some herbal elements, and the finish is a tad hot.

As the cheapest of the decent Barolos, you can't go wrong, especially in this vintage. The heft and the tar are not there, but there is absolutely nothing bad about this wine. It's a great cellar defender for the style. The nose is the absolute star here; perhaps closer to a Barbaresco. I don't mean my review to sound critical. I really like this wine. Just trying to be accurate and temper expectations.

  • This Barolo wastes no time barging out of the gates! Very aromatic Barolo. Truffle, rose petals and dried red to dark fruits on the nose. Serious savory components on the palate, full of red and black licorice, dried plums, not too earthy but has a subtle mushroom/truffle note on the end. Baking spice and hint of leather as well. Medium bodied but full of life, this wine dances around your mouth effortlessly.
