Pura humedad. Primera añada de Vicalanda y oxidativo a tope sin recorrido ni esperanza en nariz. De trago desequilibrado. Considerando la extraordinaria añada, ¿Fue un experimento o simplemente una botella fallida?

true, dark cherry with medium viscosity. Smell of cellar (mold) and curling aroma of . Tannins light and the wine is a tiny bit faded but perfectly drinkable. The vanilla extract taste is ever-present thanks to the usual French Oak taste of Rioja. The wine should be consumed before 2013

Really enjoyed this. It's made in a more modern style so still lots of intensity and much darker colour than expecting given the age (recently had a 1994 Tondonia which was a massive contrast in style!). Really very good and I wish I'd bought more than just 1 bottle.

Still a full ruby colour. Fading to garnet at the rim. Complex nose of sweet spice, leather, dried red berries, along with a hint of vanilla and coconut. Classic mature Rioja but still strong. Sweet fruit palate, very primary for such a mature wine. Lots of clove and leather, great structure and good tannin levels still, gamey note throughout. Great length, pleasing acidity, might even improve given another couple of years, but certainly drinking very well.

Good / Very Good – clear mid garnet appearance; red fruit on nose; off-dry; low acidity; medium body; low soft tannins; long finish; red fruits – cherries; very soft; bit earthy; got better the longer it was open; lovely balanced mature rioja; good cork; some fine sediment; stored upside down – lots of sedmiment on the bottom of the cork; opened decanted and filtered about 1 hour before drinking. Had it with Braised Beef in Brandy Sauce with Roasted Chesnut Mushrooms.

Absolutely gorgeous old Rioja; there is nothing else like it. Decanted 1 hour before drinking. The bottle had the worst cork I have ever seen which completely disintegrated on removal. Had to strain wine to remove cork debris but the wine was still lovely, rounded tannins with background vanilla flavour and long, long finish. At its peak now so we will have to drink our other 5 bottles soon!

Lovely, clean Tempranillo character, well-judged, relatively new oak, strawberry and raspberry, hint of liquorice; refined, playful, well-defined, good stuffing but elegant, ripe tannins, well-rounded, good flavours of fruit and oak; lovely length. Drinking very well.

Historical Bodegas Bilbainas Tasting Event (plus dinner at La Piperna) (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): Feeling highly humidity. Corked? First vintage of Vicalanda and was oxidised, out of the trail, any hope on the nose. Unbalanced throat. Considering the outstanding vintage, was it an experiment or just a flawed bottle?

Lighter bodied than expected. Complex nose, almost Bordeaux-like, and a good structure, though lacking a little depth.

Mellow, savoury mouthful. Quite claret like. Went well with a beef goulash. Very well behaved but a little lacking in excitement perhaps.

Blood red no ageing. Creamy smooth nose, sweet and alcoholic. Palate is very smooth but the fruit has a streak of brightness through it.
